Two birds with one stone... 45 LC / 45 ACP...

I saw a flatgate go up on the EE a while back for around $300 shipped and I kind of laughed because I knew the seller through a previous not so great deal and he obviously thought it was a typical old model single six....... I'm not really attracted to them and not into collecting and I swore never to deal with the guy again so I just watched.
Less then an hour later it was re listed on the EE for around $600 and I think it sold quickly.

HI; I have found the 45acp to be more accurate than the 45 colt from the same gun. 4 5/8 barrels can be wippy and harsh recoiling in hot 45s so I like 5 1/2 barrels and Bisley grips for strong load.

I've only bought 7-8 inch barrels in my single actions, because they just look right. After getting some shorter DA revolvers I think my next single might just be in the 5.5 inch range, especially if its a Ruger

2015 should see ( according to some reviews) a run of 357 mag/ 9mm convertible Lipsey Flattop in 5.5 inch...
I will add this one to my herd as well, 2 calibers at the time what a great idea... JP.

After shooting a super blackhawk 4 5/8 (which has a similar grip frame to the regular blackhawk) I wouldn't shoot anything stout out of a shorter barrelled blackhawk either. Not sure if the extra inch from 4 5/8 to 5.5 makes a huge difference but the Bisley grip frame is key in helping to control recoil. this is why John Linebaugh and many other big bore experimenters gravitate to that frame for their custom SA revolvers.

John, I'm on the ferry...I'll see you after breakfast! I'll be the guy running around town waving cash in the air...you are such a tease! ...

It's in the condition you see in the photo, virtually mint and I'd say 95%-98%. I have the original manual and box, however,:( the box condition is the exact opposite of the gun. I think my friend was related to Red Green as there's just about as much duct tape as there is box.
Teasing isn't the intent. My level of funds available for firearms and related items has taken a beating recently. Seems there 'were' a number of rifles and a BFR that I needed to make my life complete. As such, that single six may soon be up for adoption and if so,:) you're #1 on the list.

Over all I'd say I'm not terribly impressed with the 9mm one of mine. A good 357 target load is more satisfying and very accurate without being harsh.

I wouldn't mind a bisley type. That would likely be my next blackhawk if I find the right one.

Those SBH are some nice revolvers, since i bought my 44 mag 10.5 inch last month, i got a 617 S&W 22 lr and my Flattop 45LC/45ACP, i am in a revolver mood... Lol. JP.

Ruger's is known to have produced some .45LC cylinders with throats that are a bit tighter then the bore of the barrel.
Pretty easy to check and have fixed.

I have the 5 1/2" 45 New Model Blackhawk Convertable. From 40 feet I can (although not everytime) put 6 rounds of 45 ACP into one large, ragged hole. Very impressed with a revolver that is capable of shooting so accurately. I shoot almost exclusively with cast for this revolver, and in 45 ACP it works great. I really like how I can practice with it with cheap 45ACP brass, and the calibre is a pleasure to shoot. I haven't shot the 45LC much, as only last week I finally was able to get my hands on some magnum powder. Shooting full house 45LC is such a rush, it gives the revolver amazing versatility. I see no need for more power from a pistol, I'll bet it would shoot through a buffalo, lol.

I noticed that after only 6 shots of 45LC I was getting some leading in the barrel. I was using 255 gr. non gas checked cast bullets over 24 gr. of H110. I believe, if my memory is correct, that should be in the ball park of 1300-1350 fps.

Should I be using gas checked bullets for such a load? (I'm thinking yes) Anyone care to share some experience?

I think you might be over loading the bullet. But I cannot find the load in my books with a fast look. From what I have been able to learn the .45 Colt cannot be loaded to the levels of a .44Mag. You want .44Mag performance get a .44Mag. But it's your hands and gun!

The info came straight from hodgdon.

Sorry to derail the thread. I'll repost in an appropriate area.

I use the same bullet for 45ACP and 45 Colt, it is cast from a fairly hard alloy .452" round nose.
I am getting good accuracy from both but I use different guns, the 45 Colt is an impressive round and there is something about feeding then into a SAA that makes me feel like a cowboy if only briefly.

I bought one K of 45 ACP 200 gr SWC factory rounds and those should be top performer in my Lipsey Flattop for accuracy, looking forward to try them... JP.

200gr. SWC? You pussy... :p What's next? 155's? lol

JP you reload, right? Why not try a +/- 250gr. bullet in both APC or LC? It would seem like a good fit as others have reported.

I try to keep away of reloading for my pistol calibers, it's just to much time consuming and i was busy since black Friday hoarding a lot of ammo for my 2015 season at very low prices, i will reload for my 308's... JP.

I have a uberti 1875 with 45 colt and 45 apc cylinders. Both shoot good. The only issue is the 45 apc, some are bit stiff to eject. My ejector rod broke after a year.

I would suggest that the reloads are too hot and expanding the cases if the brass is hard to eject. That is if your reloading.
