I currently have a P226 in .22lr and I'm thinking of going to 9mm for a summer of "tactical" shoots at my local range.

I'm trying to decide if I should just get a 9mm conversion kit for the P226 and an SRT kit as well OR should I grab the P320 which is only a few hundred dollars more? I'm also curious as to why P226s run between 1100-1500$ while the P320 is in the 700-800$ ball park. Cheaper manufacturing costs or just doesn't have the Navy SEAL price bump factor?

I remember shooting the P320 last summer and really liking it. I shoot my P226 quite well and like it too.

Haven't used a P320 but the difference in price is due to the polymer frame and striker configuration. However, US $ is going up with no end in sight, so if you find something at a normal price, buy it. 226 with X-Change kits is still a great deal. P320 is also supposed to be an excellent pistol.

Both Good Guns. Striker Fired vs hammer. The DA first pull on the P226 takes some getting use to. But the pistol grip and controls will be familiar to you.

I know this was totally no help BTW, lol

Do you prefer metal or polymer? I vote P226.

If you prefer polymer, the P320 is the best polymer pistol I have tried.

If you like the feel of a 226 and want a slightly lighter and smaller package - the polymer DA/SA Sig Pro SP2022 is a fantastic pistol. Think they were $569 the last time I saw one for sale.

Don't buy ONE.

Buy TWO of them. I can say that because I have both the P226 AND the P320. And I even have the .22 LR Kit for the P226 for my clients to get really good with for training purposes of course.

Cheers, Barney.

What he said ^^^^^

But if ya can only afford one - my vote goes to the P226 (specifically the TAC-OPS .... the SRT and the night sights are the tits !!!)

I like the 320. Good pistol for a polymer, striker fire. I am sold on the 226 though. I bought a .22 and added the 9mm exchange kit. Have poured thousands of rounds through it, most in .22LR. IMO, best training/working pistol out there.

Owned both, both are excellent.
I would say a 226 is more of a range gun and p320 more of an IPSC gun.

If in a position to be issued one or the other I would take the 226 with a srt before a p320.

The trigger on a 226 is more deliberate then a p320.

But shooting sport reward speed and would therefore lean toward a p320.

Anyone know where I can get a 9mm upper for my P226? Especially one with night sights? I would also like an SRT kit and will have to source one.

I think sticking with the P226 will be cheaper and I'm already use to it and shoot quite well with it. The P226 is an older design while the P320 seems quite new ... I guess at the end of the day I'm asking if the fancy new gun is a better platform than the P226.

Alright, have to tell someone about this. I freakin' love the P320! I have owned a P226 for a little over four years, and the old thing really grew on me. I loved everything about it and found myself wishing I was shooting it when I was shooting something else. Then, comes the P320. I thought it couldn't possibly be as nice as my 226 has been, but it felt nice in the hand, had a great, very "siggy" trigger, and looked pretty awesome too. So, I bought one to go along side my P226. So far, in a couple hundred rounds, I've been shooting the 320 more and more and neglecting the 226. I figured I'd shoot the 320 worse than the 226 due to being so used to the trigger. I shot groups with the 320 consistently half the size of the groups I was shooting with the 226. I'm sold! All I need now is a good holster, more mags, and some caliber exchange kits!

Hard to say as you are comparing a DA/SA Hammer fired to a striker fired pistol. They are different designs and it's up to you to see which one you prefer. After trying striker fired pistols, I prefer my DA/SA H&K/Sig/Beretta platformed pistols. There is very little 'new technology' to pistols, these have been around for a long time. The P320 is just an offering to compete with the LE dominance of Glock/S&W striker pistols. It should be interesting if any dept's move towards the P320. I haven't handled a P320 so I can't say if it's more refined than it's main rivals in this category - Glock/M&P. All that I can say is that I do not care for the striker fired pistols that I've shot to date.

P226 is a keeper for me.

Just had a chance to try both: P226 Elite with SRT and E2 grips vs. P320. For me, P226 looks like a better balanced and more refined firearm than P320 (again, it's just my POV).

P226 for me.

Both great guns. I tried a P320 recently. I was impressed. Feels solid, holds nice and quite easy to shoot.
