Any thoughts on a S&W 1911 Pro Series - I've taken an interest in 1911's

Just was wondering if anyone has any experience with the S&W 1911 Pro Series. I want a 1911 with the adjustable rear sights.

Found one. Price is $1859.00 That's more than an STI Sentry. The reason I say Sentry and not Trojan is the Sentry has an ambi safety as does the S&W pro series.

Thanks

All in all the trojan has been my goto 1911 as well. I did have a few small issues.

ambi safety is just a bit wiggly..nature of the beast I guess.

if you want standard stocks, order regular grip bushings and standard screws with it and buy some new wood, as it comes with slim stocks (which I hated)

plunger tube innards needed some sanding because the end that acts on the slide stop sticks, making it hard to reinsert the slide stop. It's still sticky, actually.

slide stop had a lip on it that also ran afoul of the plunger when reassembling - dremel took care of that.

minor stuff (that nevertheless should not be an issue on a $1300 pistol).

And it's a great gun for the money ..there had to say it..
FWIW Freedom can put an ambi safety on a Trojan before they ship it for about $50. That's the route I went

Thanks folks for all the great comments. I think I'm crazy but I just bought a new STI Trojan from Freedom Ventures and am having them put an STI ambi safety on and and STI magwell/main spring housing.

If it's of any help, I have a Smith 1911, but the E series. Great gun for the money and Smith and Wesson quality. I find it accurate enough and reliable with FMJ ball ammo.

As an owner of a number of 1911's, I have to say that I am not a fan of the external extractor idea on the model. That being said, I do believe that if you want an external extractor on a 1911, Smith has done it right. I have only one day's worth of experience at the range with a high end Smith 1911, and I tried my darnedest to not like it, but it shoot unbelievably well and was a beautiful specimen. Made me want to try a Scandium framed version.

I have one in 9mm (yes I know...!) and I LOVE it! Got it from EE for a good price. If it had been full price, new, I do not know if I would have gone with the STI or SW. As I have never fired an STI, I cannot compare.

The trigger is super crisp, just a little bit of slack and click! Only thing I will adjust are the grips. I have small hands and the grips on the Pro are a bit thick for me. Besides that, it will remain like that for a long time. oh yes, the Wilson Combat mags are super as well, no problem ever.

Disclaimer: I have only had it for a couple months, and with the weather I did not shoot it a lot yet.

Congratulations! I've only had mine since Christmas but I'm very happy with it so far.
