Dlask carries them as well, I phoned them up a month or so ago and they wanted over $7k for a srs model with the cleaning kit and wrench. It's a neat rifle but I don't think you are getting your money's worth when the exchange rate is that poor. The AI AT price hasn't moved, might be something to think about.
I want the MDR
I want one as well but what does that have to do with this thread? The MDR is a black rifle not a precision rifle.
Even though it will have a Lothar Walther barrel like the SRS the MDR will not be a 1/2 MOA or better rifle.
The question posed by this thread was who imports desert tech. The MDR is desert tech as well as the firearm mentioned. Pretty relevant as far as a random post goes.
This wasn't for the deployment package, just the gun and the cleaning kit with wrench. I can't remember exactly but I think the guy said it was $7200 or $7600 for the .308 they were asking. Earlier that year when our money was closer to par I got quotes, they were going for $6450 for the .308 and $6950 for the .338 one.Even when the dollar was on par they have never been under $7000 for the deployment package. I think I bought mine in 2010 and I paid over $7000 with tax for mine.
He asked specifically about the SRS and who carries them or imports them, you answered neither, provided no information and also mentioned a rifle we won't see in Canada till late 2016 if we're lucky.
I've exchanged emails with DTA about the MDR and am very excited to get my hands on one as well but the non restricted length models won't be around for quite some time, even after DTA starts making the longer version we will still need them to go through the RCMP lab for an FRT number which may push things back to late 2017.
The only thing you got right was that your post was random.
Sorry, I've been up for around 30 hours straight now and am a little grumpy.
If I had the extra $7k+ kicking around collecting dust I sure would like to give this platform a try, but my questions is this:
At over $7,000, how better is it over a $3,500 rig? Or over a $4,500 custom rig? Or $5,500 custom rig?
What is it that you get for that $7,000 that you do not get from another rifle platform, be it a COTS rifle or a custom build rig?
- Better accuracy
- Better precision
- Both the above
- Higher build quality
- Higher quality components (action, barrel, trigger, stock)
Or is it just as good as a $4,500 GA Precision/Surgeon/PGW & the likes, but you're paying $2,500 for the stock configuration?
Accuracy is as good as any other out there.
-My rifle is 39 inches long with a 26 inch barrel, compare that to the length of the competition.
-I've shot better than 0.5moa with factory ammo but am still working up a hand load since I switched to Berger from Sierra projectiles due to availability issues.
-Military grade materials and engineering.
-Quick change caliber conversions available, calibers can be switched in less than 60 seconds with a little practice.
-I can remove my barrel for cleaning and when I put it back together the rifle retains zero perfectly every time.
-Trigger is as good as any rifle I've shot, including the Timberwolf and the custom rifles I've shot. This may not be true for every DTA though, my buddy bought an HTI in 375 Chey-Tac and he's not as impressed with his trigger and has been having some trouble getting it adjusted to his liking. I've never touched mine and it's awesome.
Is it better than the others? Depends how you look at it and what you're looking for.
Is it worth the extra dollars? Depends what you want and what you'd like to do with it. Only you can decide if it's worth the extra cash for what it offers over what the others do.
I will say that I think it's just as good as anything else out there in quality and accuracy but it is much more versatile. I hunt with mine, I've take it quadding for the day slung across my back, it's great getting in and out of a vehicle with it and it fits in a case the same size as a longer barreled AR so you could easily throw it in the back seat of a small car which even my 223 varmint rifle doesn't do well.
Only the person buying the rifle can decide if it's worth the extra dollars for what the SRS offers over the others but to me it was worth it and I don't regret my purchase at all.
The better than .5 MOA with factory (match) ammo is a solid accomplishment for a stock rifle, but is it better than all of them? I think not.
The portability features can also come in handy in certain circumstances; a folding stock could be a compromise, but maybe not as easy to transport.
What I don't see as actual Pro's in support of the $7,000 is:
- barrel removal for cleaning. In such a simple platform as bolt-action rifles, this can't be a "Pro's" in order to support the asking price.
- Military grade materials? What are differences between the material used in these rifles Vs the other big names out there?
What I'm getting from your post is that there's alot of personal opinion/feelings of a buyer (i.e. "only the person buying it can decide", "depends how you look at it", "depends what you want") attached to it rather than solid fact-based reasoning why it does indeed cost $7,000+
