Forming 22-250 brass from other cals.

Obviously, the 250 Savage would be the easiest, but those cases are not always abundant.

My next choice would be 243 Winchester, but it will not be the easiest conversion.

Can't find 22-250 cases?

Dave.

250 savage would be the easiest. 22-250 brass is hard to find in these parts for some reason.

with .243 what kind of steps would be involved? I can make my own 7mm-08 out of .308 but would this be more difficult?

Yes, quite a bit harder because you have to squeeze the 243 brass down considerably in the shoulder & upper body area.

I would guess that some losses would be inevitable due to wrinkles in the brass.

How much ya looking for? I have some old stuff I don't use since I went all to W-W, got some R-P and some other brands if you're that tight for 22-250 brass. It may not be the best brass but it is easier than trying to form from the 08 case family.

I have some kicking around. It's been sitting in a plastic container in the back of my truck for a while, so it might be a bit green. But if you want it, let me know.

Have an RCBS form die set to form 250 Savage from 308 and 30-06 family cartridges. Properly annealed cases will make it possible to size 308 to 250 Savage in one swipe with standard FL sizer die. Press mounted trim dies allow cartridge neck trimming with hacksaw. Cases would probably require outside neck turning.

Thanks for the offers and advice. I see now that it is probably not worth the effort if I need to buy new dies and possibly waste brass just to experiment. I think I'll leave this one alone.

I made quite a few 22-250 out of 308 Win. An article in Precision Shooting Magazine indicated this was a good way to acheive a closer fitting neck for improved accuracy. That accuracy increase was overstated, however velocities improved with decreased powder charges as 308 cases reduced powder capacity. It was worth doing.
