RPAL question

So i'm trying to find an RPAL class, and I keep seeing information about how if you do the RPAL class with a year of your PAL it shortens the class time.
Now, hypothetically lets say a person did there PAL test literally just over 12 months ago, for the sake of argument 375 days, would this be considered over a year or would the instructor let it slide? Is the decision up to the instructor or is it set in stone on the paperwork?

Must be an ontario thing .. for never heard that in SK when i did my courses .. best to speak with the instructor, for it would be his call if that is the case. Not sure how it would be shortened ... for one only deals with not restricted and the other restricted.
 
When I attened my pal/rpal combined class last Oct, in my class, there were a few people had to attend half day(or one day, don't remember exactly) PAL refresh course because they got their PAL a while ago, so it should be true. I just don't know if it's just Ontario, or whole country and I cannot find anything in writing on RCMP website. The only thing for sure is if you do PAL/RPAL in one shot, it's $20 cheaper for the application fee, then the blended course is usually cheaper as well.
 
Yeah in Ontario if it has been over a year they make you go back and take "Day one" of you PAL over again... which is basically the whole course because "day two" is basically just the test. very, very silly I know. I did not realize this was just an Ontario thing.

I have a friend who has been shooting years before me. He didn't get his RPAL within the first year. Still doesn't have it, now it will be an extra day and $100 if he wants it. This is why I recommend EVERYONE going to get PAL just sign up to do the combo course and get your RPAL too, even if you don't think you want it. Get it.

Hate to say it but I think you will have to do "day one" of the PAL course even if you are one day over a year. You know how the CFO rolls...

I also will be recommending the same!
I was told by my instructor the same within one year rule as well. Ironically, I am taking my crfsc on month 11. (My wife asked my why I waited until the last minute, I said because I am a man!! lol!!)

That's not entirely true. If you've never handled handguns or know very little about them you could fail the practical portion with handling, nor does the PAL test address the specific legal requirements associated with ownership of restricted firearms.
 
I had never handled a handgun before I challaged the test and passed with flying colours(49/50) on practical and 49/50 on the writen. The videos are on YouTube and the books online. I just read it over, watched the videos and it was a breeze.

Cool dude, good to hear. But that's not what you said in your original post. You stated that everything one needed to know for the RPAL test was covered in the PAL course. If someone follows that advice and challenges they would need lady luck to come out of the challenge with a RPAL.
