Would anyone know a dealer that would carry Mosin M44 stocks with the metal to go with it. I am looking to restore a polish m44 that had a bad run in with a saw.
ive found truck loads in the USA but cant seem to find a single company that will export, closest I have gotten is with liberty tree which will ship all the metal components but will not ship the wood..... any one know what I can do to get one here?
It's definitely possible.
I cut my 91/30 down to a 20" barrel.
Cut the stock down and hand guard top part to match an M38/M44 size.
Used a sharp wood working chisel to reform the tips and reused the original metal caps and screws complete.
It would be one more simple step with a router or even a solid dremel tool and bit to form the folding bayonet notch. You will want to strip the stock first and get it in down to bare wood. Then cut and form the stock and refit the metal. It will look like junk if you cut a notch for the bayonet and expose the bare wood surrounded by shellac finish. Then sand and finish properly in some nice handrubbed BLO. Or shellac if you want the ugly as hell "official" communist look. I did mine in BLO and it turned out awesome.
It was a great fun project. Good challenge and had a blast doing it. So it's definitely possible.
Boyds sells 5 different styles of M-44 stocks if you want a less surplus look. I put a 91/30 in a "Featherweight Thumbhole" stock in pepper colour. Very ergonomic, and looks great.
Well my m44 is a polish so blo would work. I am aiming to do a faithful restoration cause i got a really good price for it and to fix it would be easy. My wood working skills are nil. I also called marstar and they told me they are out. Anyone have any other leads?
