Gents: Recommend me a quality "black rifle" in any calibre other than 223 or 308.

Used 6.8 mm robinson arms. That's if you find a used one. Same with mini 30 in 6.8. Sorry, can't help you more. Robinson arms are twice the price you are looking for. Save your money and buy one. I like mine.

Can someone please tell me what exactly that tactical lever-gun is?

Bloody phucking awesome is what it is m8!

...currently leaning towards a Thureon Defense in 9mm. Keep 'em coming.

I''ve had one. They're nice but for the life of me I couldn't figure out what the hell to use it for. To big for small game, to small for big game and 22's cheaper than 9 for plinking. Great gun but altogether not that useful.

bahhh, really thats kinda frigging ghey when you can buy a vz58, but whatever to each their own

VZ is the way I'd go. Or the Mini-14 but they don't make 6.8's anymore so you'd be stuck looking for a used one or you could go for a new -14 in 5.56 or a -30 in x39.

Another vote for the vz58. You may even want to wait for the new CZ that Wolverine is trying to bring in as it can take a scope much more readily. Dead reliable. Easily accurate enough to hunt with it and lots of accessories out there.

... btw gents, I have a new rule based on experience... after $1200 or $1300, you're better off having a smith build you a rifle of much higher quality and spec. So I am holding to this budget and "lofty" requirements, or, I'll have something built for a few hundred more. I might also take a base Thureon and have quality iron/ghost ring sights added. At this point I am still largely undecided.

If you know of a G-Smith that can "build" you a quaility NR black rifle for $1600, in a calibre other than .223 or .308 please let us know. Seriously, I want one.

You're going to have a smith build you a semi auto non restricted rifle? That sounds risky and unlikely but hey go ahead and let us know how it goes

If I wanted a smith to assemble/modify a semi to fit my needs, then I am well aware that "a few hundred" more will likely take me well above $2500, depending on what I want. Of course, this thread is not about being cynical, or a battle of wills, but rather to explore what is out there, and in my stated budget range.
