What I have here is a Midland Large Ring in 30-06 caliber with a Mauser action.
For the life of me I cant figure out how to remove the bolt. I had a couple guys over also and they also failed.

Anyone out there have one that can tell us the trick we are missing?

Don't have one but here are a few different methods of M98 bolt retention

On left hand side of stock at the back of the action near tang there is a latch that pulls out,or pushes in or down, some guns require the trigger to be pulled, some guns have a recessed detent neccesitating a tool to depress the detent Some remingtons are like this.....I'll look up your gun in my bolt action encylopedia

If it is a Midland 2100, push in the button on the ejector box on the left rear of the receiver.
If it has a Mauser action, the ejector box will swing away from the receiver, pivoting at the rear.
If this doesn't work, remove the screw, detach the ejector box, and the bolt should come out. Then figure out what is wrong with the bolt stop.

Sorry. My books cover everything from Akley to ZKK rifles and actions....no Midland

But a large ring M98 is fairly consistant with the left side of the reciever near the tang having a catch of some sort. Either pushed in, down, back, forward or traditionally and originally pulled out. You should not have the bolt all the way back when you try to manipulate the retaining catch. The bolt may bind up the catch. Have the bolt slightly forward

Sometimes the inletting of the stock prevents full movement of the bolt release. Take it out of the stock and have a look...

the least you could do is post a picture of each side of the action. If this model has no visible bolt release on the action I would guess it is operated by the trigger. In some cases a trigger operated bolt release required you close the bolt and while closed you hold the trigger to the rear (fired position) and keep holding the trigger to the rear hard... and while holding the trigger hard open the bolt and with draw it fully.

The late Midland (Mfg by Gibbs) based on Mauser 98 receivers (leftovers from P-H) which use the same release system.

Have you recently put new scope mounts on it? And the bolt was in the rifle and locked forward? If so, one or both of the base screws could be too long and they're now jammed-down on a locking lug not letting you unlock and draw the bolt back?
