Anyone on the 6.5 SAUM facebook page?

I thought I read on there last night that George Gardner of GA precision was saying that redding was looking at making official dies and that someone was looking at making brass and possibly loaded ammo. I can't confirm at work at the moment (my facebook is not work appropriate lets put it that way lol).

Anyways was just wondering if anyone else saw this and does this mean that this cartridge is on it's way out of the wild cat bin and in to the main stream bin?
 
He mentioned it at SHOT. Redding dies and Hornady Brass, IIRC.

Manufacturer's listen to George, he doesn't just build rifles, he wins major competitions. With his input into their scopes, Bushnell turned around their tactical line.

His guns prove other wise. The purpose of the 6.5 saum is to run it at 308 opperating pressures. If you run it full glare you will get wicked velocity but less than 1000 rounds out of the barrel. George designed it with the purpose of shooting for pressure, which still gives him crazy velocity, but good barrel life. He won snipers hide cup with a barrel with 3000 plus rounds on it so maybe he knows what he's doing.....

Been enjoying shooting a 6.5 SAUM as much as I can.

6.5 SAUM 4S uses H1000. H1000 has very low heat, especially when you run it at only ~52kpsi

Got a magnum face bolt with my new actions specifically to build a 6.5 SAUM 4S

I've run the whole works of them from the 264 Win Mag right down to the 6.5WSSM and can tell you in no uncertain temrs that the 6.5SAUM is the hands down winner as far as a balanced cartridge goes.

I've hoarded brass over the years. That's the downside, it looks like Remington hasn't been selling unprimed rifle brass in most calibers for some time now. Stuck buying the expensive brass now.
As for dies, Whidden make 6.5 SAUM dies, or get Redding Type S 7 RSAUM dies and get bushings to neck down to 6.5mm.

I use a 7 RSAUM Forster Seater die. Works perfectly.

Have 243 WSSM and 25 WSSM. Brass quality is terrible. I have given up on them. The SAUM sized case formed from 300 WSM brass makes a great long-necked SAUM cartridge. Tried to set shoulders back on SAUM cases to create a cartridge with case capacity between WSSM and SAUM, but found it impossible to roll back shoulder without buckling case.
 
WSSM also feeds like crap out of an AICS mag. Plus, now you're back into high pressure territory to get the 140 up to 3100 fps.

SAUM was chosen because it has the PERFECT case capacity to get the 140 to 3100 while still staying at low pressure. It can launch the 140 at over 3400 fps if you run it at peak pressure. That wasn't George's goal. The SAUM can also hold a 140 in its neck without it going into the donut area and still have it fit an AICS mag with no front plate.

My long range rifles are single shot, and WSSM cartridges still feed like crap.
Just curious how these "lower pressure" rounds are sealing chamber. With WSSM brass being so thick, max and over max loads were required to seal tight neck chambers. The SAUM cartridges from RP are as thick as WSSM.
 
That doesn't surprise me... the WSSM were designed as varmint cartridges to use short light bullets. Put a long heavy bullet in them and that fat stubby case tips forward pretty easily. That's what tends to happen when the shoulder hits the feed ramp with the AICS.

People are turning their necks. The pressure is still around 52kpsi, so the necks seal.
 
I have formed 7mm SAUM cases out of 270 WSM brass. It has to be once fired WSM brass to keep the shoulder from buggering up.
Did it just to see if it was possible, not out of need, I have 600 new 7mm SAUM brass.
