7.92x54r

My buddy wants to sell me a car, what's it worth? It might help to say what it is and what shape. With the description right now I would say it's worth between $1 and $10,000,

First thing check ammo should be 7.62x54r! Next the gun is worth what you can get it for But they are around $179.00 here in Victoria for a run of the mill. Could be more but that depends on the condition, year, hex vs round reciever. You can find lots of info on line if he wants more. If he has shot lots make sure there is no rust on bolt or on bore. Should be none if it was cleaned with hot water then oiled ever time after corosive ammo. Try for $150 or less.
Hope some of this helps.

Edited after the fact. Initial post was just asking about a caliber. For which I gave an honest answer.

He shouldn't feel run out of town. We answered his question honestly. Then he changed it to include rifle, and someone answered that. Then thinking he may have been mistaken on caliber I cautioned him. How am I supposed to know if he knows or not. If it prevents an accident then it's worth mentioning.
