Hey guys, I did my research on this gun and thinking of getting one in the near future, just wanted to hear from the owners or those who are familiar with this gun, is it really that great and worth every penny?
Does it go back to absolute zero after barrel removal ? Does the safety engage after every bolt pull ? Being that light (6.4lb) is it really that we'll balanced? How accurate is it with factory ammo? What is the maximum scope objective size that can be used with low rings ?
I would like to get one in Alpinist configuration, but fluted barrel w/sights in 308. And then maybe get another barrel/bolt in some magnum caliber like 300winmag or so. Probably Swarovski z3 3-10 for an optic, it will keep it still under 7 lb. The gun will be used mostly for deer and ocasional moose or bear.

Really cool looking guns.




 
I have been looking to handle one, the biggest negative I have found is that they do not offer a set trigger which is something I really would like to have. Kind of odd that it is not an option.

yeah, that rings true when you look at this section on the forum and see what people recommend even when guys are looking to spend a decent amount of money.
 
...or how even the Ruger RSM has been lambasted when being brought up for having features "Not many people care about like Circassian walnut". That one stuck in my mind. CGN by and large is a budget firearms forum, there are a good deal of high quality firearms and owners there of in Canada, they are however in the extreme minority on CGN, this is generally a quantity forum. Can't personally answer on this one as if it's a turnbolt I'm old fashioned and like Mausers (happily from an English maker), I'd call Ralf Martini. This said, budget firearms aren't a bad thing, they're the tool of those more concerned with the hunting than the implements.
 
If there were more One Percenters, they'd be the Five Percenters. It's not that CGN is a budget forum, it's that its a large public forum, the largest in this country, for this sport. The vast majority of drivers have Toyotas and such, not Bugattis.

These non-budget forums being alluded to probably don't have that many active posters, right?
 
I handled a Helix in South Africa, both wood and synthetic. I was surprised how light they were. The cycling of the action feels very good, slick and positive.

They also don't have guys recommending entry level rifles saying they are good enough when a guy says he has $2500 to spend on a hunting rifle before accessories and wants a quality piece that holds it's value
 
Thanks for the input.

This rifle is offered with two barrel contours, 17 and 19mm, regular or fluted. If I want the fluted barrel in 308, should I go with 19mm for better harmonics or 17mm for slight weight reduction??
 
I would go with as light as possible, steyr scout comes with a very small diameter fluted barrel and it gives up nothing in the accuracy department.

When I priced out the helix I went with 17mm fluted, no sights

It wouldn't be CGN if we didn't have to sort the wheat from the chaff.

I'd check out nitroexpress forums, AH, AR... No shortage of fine arm owners out there. They just don't post much around CGN or AR15.com etc. It's just a different aspect of the hobby not all appreciate, as it's moving as much or more towards art than function. For many, function is understandably everything, for others art complements the sport substantially.
 
If I check those forums out, I'm flying too close to the sun on wings made of wax. :) I don't want to know what I'm missing!
