I have heard about these super cheap copies of the mark4 scopes. Has anyone actually taken one out and done some precision shooting and/ or long range shooting (500-1000 yards) with them?

I am just curious if these clones actually function all that well. I have a couple of the original mark4's, and nightforce scopes (NXS 5.5-22 MOAR), so I know the quality they level they function at.

Dont flame me for my curiosity lol!

YES - I have two of the 100% totally fake ones that I bough off Ebay; one is a copy of the 3.5-10 and the other is a copy of the 4.4-14 and they both now sit atop .22LR rifles. Niether of these two have seen any real action and were bought more for novelty factor than anything else so I can't comment too much on either of those particular scopes.

Having said all that, I did use another fake 10x Leupold on a Norc M305 a few years ago and I was absolutely shocked that it stood up to the recoil and actually held zero LOL.

The problem with all these Chinese scopes is QC - some are ok whereas others are pure junk.

Oh, glass quality of the clones is OK - standard Chinese/Canadian Tire sort of.

It does sadden me that my clones cost $100 each whereas my two real Mk4's cost $1400 and $1800 :)

A few years ago I aquired a Bushnell 5-15,3200 Tactical for $100.00.
I planned on putting it on a 22lr, but for sh*ts and giggles, I put it on my long range 308 win rifle. After sighting it in, I walked the scope/rifle combo out to 1000 yards, no problem at all! I was stunned by its performance!
The scope performed well on the box test as well! It just goes to show you that sometimes the price of an item does t always reflect its potential.

I have both the LEUPOLDS and the copy with the leup name on it. The copy for $100. is a good buy, I have it on a 223 and it's fine for ranges out to 300 m. For serious LR shooting you would have to go with the real McCoy, LEUPOLD or NIGHTFORCE.
Enjoy

I have a rule . No Fake sh!t on my rifles period.

I understand that you like only brand name scopes. I tend to stay with higher quality scopes as well. But "respectfully", this thread isn't about what you like.

I am asking all those shooters who have tried these fake leupold scopes on real precision shooting, how they performed. Please keep the responses related to my original post.

I think when I have finished the two reviews I am working on I will take one of the fake Leupolds and write a comparative review next to my real one. That will surely ruffle a few feathers :)

My buddy bought a fake Leupold off eBay and put it on his .270 Tikka T3 Lite. I think it lasted 10 rounds and rattled apart. We couldn't see through it, and the crosshairs moved side to side when you changed magnification.

Well you did get an incredible deal at $100 so I'm not sure that you should be basing your statement on what you paid...but more on the quality of the scope, of which older Elites are quite good scopes.

A LR scope should be:

Precision made
Quality glass
Metal/machined internals.
Fully lens coated
Tracking turrets
Sealed and purged.

Knockoffs may look real, but have none of these features.

Combing from someone that bought that crap when I was younger, don't bother.

Now the cheapest scope I run is over a grand and I will never go back.

I haven't read the other posts. i have bought one personally and still waiting on a day i can spend on the range. i will write a review about it, but i would prefer to write one after i have gone through 500 rounds of ammo. It is currently sitting on top of my weatherby vanguard s2 in .223 rem. For $90cad shipped it's worth a try.

If they could make good scopes, they'd sell them under their own name/brand for a higher price. Think of it that way.

There are many GOOD scopes out there that do not cost a few $100, but they are def not knock offs nor are they Chinese.

The Airsoft/paintball kids (and some adults) are a BIG group, a lot of this cheap/knock off gear is for them. Light use guns that do not experience any real recoil nor are they used at ranges much more then 50-100 FEET, ie. quality and ability to hold zero is moot. This type of kit is mostly made for people who want to LOOK the part and play war games.

For some, looking the part is all they want!!! :p

In my opinion you guys shouldn't be supporting these fraudulent outfits. It's like buying a fake Rolex. What exactly are you trying to accomplish? I understand not everyone can afford an expensive scope, but every manufacturer has a budget line up for consideration. Again, just my $ 0.02......:p.

Read my comment above!!!

I think readers of my reviews would agree that I buy nice stuff. So what if, for an experiment, I put a knock off on a rifle ? Isn't the argument against buying a known knock off for $100 the same as those snobs make against people who by a Chinese M14-style rifle ? How would you feel if I accused you of taking jobs away from the workers at LRB?

Many people do NOT buy Norinco products, myself included. LRB Arms IS awesome, but there are 3 other people who make nice M14 pattern rifles state side for cheaper then LRB Arms, non are Chinese.
