Does it feel nose heavy with the "medium heavy" contour barrel?

If you are walking a lot a Tikka CTR with scope would weight about 9 lbs, where as a Battue would weight about 7.5lbs with a scope. However if the weight is not an issue and you do not want iron sights then the CTR is a really good choice. I like the Battue because the iron sights are very fast to acquire due to the purpose of the Battue.

I would really prefer to have irons with the option of mounting a scope. I would likely use QD rings to make the rifle more versitile. I prefer no scope in the bush and the rifle is much easier to pack without a scope on top of it.

Only if Stoeger will bring it in, I tried ordering and was told no, tikka is not doing custom orders.

I've been told the same thing BUT, Stoeger Canada does maintain a parts bin, so if you are willing to pay you might be able to build something close to what you want.

As the title suggests, I am currently in the market for a hunting / bush / plinking rifle in .308.

I have owned a Gunsight Scout and two M305s and several Tikkas but not the Battue. The Gunsight Scout I sold simply because I didn't like the action compared to the Tikkas I own. The M305 in 22" that I took out hunting I found to be a little impractical (Springfield flash hider I had was pinking every time it touched a branch and I think the safety might have been a little too loud). I'm hesitating on the T3 Battue because I prefer aperture sights and I would rather have a larger capacity mag but other than that I now Tikka are fantastic rifles. In a perfect world, the CTR stock and mag would be married to the Battue barrel and iron sights but unfortunately this doesn't look possible at the moment.

What are your thoughts? This rifle will be for the woods but I still want something accurate enough to take a deer on the far side of a cut (300m?). I had an M305 shorty and that shot well and I can't remember why I sold it. If I get another M305 it would have to be a shorty. I wpull consider giving another shot but again, I'm really not a huge fan of the Mauser style action. And Tikkas, well I just love Tikkas. Clear I'm torn.
On one hand your talking about a preference for a peep sight and next it's about shooting 300m. I don't think you'll find a receiver sight to work well at that distance. Can't have it don't ways.

Too bad you don't like M98s cuz when I read "tough bush gun", I thought M98 with a receiver sight.

My bush gun is Zastava, Mauser style action, reliable, tough rifle with iron sights.
I love Tikkas too, and have a few but simple, strong gun with iron sights for me is a must.
Mind you, most of my shots (Ontario), are far closer than 300m.

Nothing wrong with M305, if that is what you prefer.
Perhaps, that is what you should get again.

a special order but time will be a killer.

Sako factory can make any kind of Tikka you want need or look for.

Thanks, I will look into it.

Perhaps OP could make a list of what he needs on his rifle and put a special order to Stoeger or Tikka, and see what happens.

what is the finish like on the CTR? is it blued, coated, painted, satin, matte, phosphated?

Maybe just a touch front heavy, but not so much. I don't really notice it being an issue....

It's a matte blue, almost black it's so dark. Don't know if this pic shows well enough...

USGI M14 rear sights are more than capable of 300m shots. In fact I figure they are the best iron sights known to man. Fit a NM aperture and a NM front sight and they will go further than the rifle and shooter I'm sure.

Thanks

If you ever take yours apart for any reason please weigh the stock.

I am waiting for one to show up with a set trigger and am looking at a MDT LSS chassis but only want to go that route if it makes it lighter. Also looking at getting a shorter, lighter profile, and fluted barrel spun on
