I was looking at these SKS from forum sponsor Bulls Eye London They are described as "amazing condition" and "Grade 1"

http://www.bullseyelondon.com/genui...arking-in-truly-amazing-condition-canada.html

Has anybody seen/handled these? Are they as good as they say? Worth the extra $70 and shipping over the local CT ones? One thing from the comments, they appear to be cleaned/de-cosmolined and ready to go.

One thing that confused me...I thought a blued bayonet was a sign of refurbishment and less desirable that the silver ones?

Some people prefer the look of the black bayo,, but it and the small square stamping in the receiver cover, are sure signs of refurbishment.

No idea what "Grade 1" means but theres no mention of being unrefurb.
Regardless, they look to be blued, which most prefer over bbq painted, which most of the Cdn Tire ones are that I have seen.

Based on buyers reviews, they sound like top quality light refurbs

Whats interesting is the sks crates!!
I want another one and theyre getting pretty hard to find these days :)

Probably just an in-shop term passed on from the supplier who likley used it as a means to identify condition.

The "grade 1" could be a reference to the number stamped on the barrel of Russian SKS'. Some people say that the number indicates accuracy with 1 being the best but I can't verify that.

The importers and retailers will use terms like "supergrade" or "grade 1" which is a purely subjective description. They might be nicer than some, but its basically meaningless. They are still your standard refurbs with a few good ones mixed in. If you are looking for a non-refurb, might as well spend 30 more and get one from Westrifle or call Bullseye and see if they have a nonrefurb in the bunch. It wouldnt surprise me.

Guys, the terms "supergrade" and "grade 1" are easy to understand -- to the point that I'm beginning to question the expertise level on CGN.

It simply refers to the quality of cosmoline that the SKS-45 was stored in. Yours was stored in the Grey Poupon of cosmolines. If you smell the rifle closely you can tell it was cosmoline infused with the scents of tobacco and leather. That's the good stuff.

I am almost certain " grade 1 " is "super grade " lots are refinished ( mine has runs ).... Not sure about this "grade 2" seem heavy refurbished and possibly laminate ( well mine atlest )? They should have the number on the bottom of the back stock I believe. I shoot the #### out of mine so paying 70$ more for a "super grade " after shipping would NOT be worth it for ME... For you it may be good if you want it to look slick and be refurbed to a higher standard looking more original...My #2 grade looks much better then the #1 condition wise, It was a very well done refurbish at a fraction of the cost. You can tell the # 2 was refurbed and parts replaced

These will be left over from the earlier imports that were in better refurbished condition. They look to not be import marked (Molot) likely Ukranian import and will be blued as opposed to the heavily BBQ sand in the action ones we have been seeing of late.

They are not worth the extra. A lot that I had seen were sanded stocks and bbq paint finish. They do not have molot marks, but it is obvious that they are refurbs.

These rifles may be really nice refurbs, but I wouldn't buy one for $300 when I could buy a 'merely decent' refurb for around $200 at Canadian Tire or some other LGS. The exterior finish on an SKS doesn't really matter that much, does it?

For shooting no. For holding value. Yes

I don't know, I think I might pay an extra 70-100 bucks for fully de -cosmolined and being really nice in terms of cosmetics. But that's just me.

I had a mint condition Ukrainian SKS. Traded it for an iPhone 5s. The SKS will always have value. The iPhone will be outdated garbage in 5 years from now. Makes me sad its gone. All I have now is a mint condition Chinese SKS. I want to get one of the new ####ty condition Russian SKS just to run the piss out of it without worrying about its value.
