Could use some help in selecting a powder/bullet/primer combo for a recent win. M88 I purchased. I here the M88 stocks crack easily , so I am concerned for that reason.
I am hoping that someone owning a 308/88 might offer some advice.

Thanks,
Your help would be much appreciated

If you're worried about the stock cracking you could have it properly bedded and/or reinforced. Any gunsmith should be able to do this.

If you want light loads you could try the 60% rule for H4895. Hodgdon published this process for reduced/youth loads. You take any load data for any cartridge that uses H4895, take 60% of the max load (multiply it by 0.6), and you have a safe, reduced load. I've read many reports of people also doing it with IMR4895 loads for decades without trouble but the published article only mentions H4895.

For something like a 308, unless the rifle is special to me in some way, I would want it able to shoot regular 308 loads and would just have the stock fixed so it doesn't split.

Thanks, but I am not interested in bedding it , only finding a load (150gr.) that has a history of working well in a 308/M88.

Exactly why I posted it. If someone is unwilling/too lazy to develop a load, might as well buy the factory stuff.

Half the fun of shooting is tinkering with the guns and ammo to make shooting better. Or in my case, it rules out two of the variables for missing my target :p

I had a Model 88 that shot a full house load of Varget in Winchester cases, topped with 165gr Hornady BTSP's all set of by CCI 200's very well.

Thanks, Varget out here is in short supply, I do have IMR 4064, which I could try with a 150 gr. Horn or 165 gr. Sierra. My fear is the 165 gr. bullet might recoil a bit too hard on the stock, and I should stick with a 150 gr. bullet.

150gr 30-30 round nose FP over trail boss or start with 34gr of H4895 and work up... The nosler hunting ballistic tip also works great with either powder and is a youth WT load with some published data... I've used it in a SLH for my missus and you can shoot it one handed.
