I am thinking of adding a S&W Combat Model 69 to join my Model 629 and Model 29 Dirty Harry...
Here a short video of the 629 in action... JP.

I've the 6" one and it has presence. A fellow the other day was shooting an old 12.6 4" 29 stuffed full of H110. I had to leave the bay to double up on ear pro lol. Lovely gun. Need to get me a 29-2 or classic 29 some day.

I like any Smith that doesn't have a full length under lug. They're far more classy. Same ding goes against the PC models.

More lately the short barrels have been displacing my dinghy the most.

One question that I have that the antis have never been able to answer is: "If gun owners are attracted to guns to make up for certain er "inadequacies" then why do so many of us like guns with really short barrels?"

Frustrates the heck out of them because there's no physco-babble theory to cover that one ;-)

Yep. Don't you just love it when posers try to channel Freud or some such?

For myself it was the discovery of how well balanced and pointable they are as compared with a heavy 6" or longer tube. A lighter 6" is also perfect.

I'm getting an annoying amount of leading in mine so I'm going to tone it down to something closer to hot 44 Specials. I want just enough thump to distinguish it from the 45 Colt and 44-40, while being accurate and not a lead collector. I've some HS-6 that I'm going to try. Got Longshot too but I don't have data for it that isn't above 1200fps or so with the 240s.

I to, i prefer the shorther underlug, they look better IMHO, one of the reason, i am drawned to the Combat M69... JP.

I know what you mean. I saw a 5.5" at the Calgary Shooting Center, and I almost didn't make it out the door! I am just reminded of the pain of the 629 and have to shake my head. I have a nerve in the joint of my thumb at the wrong position. Mmmm...looks good though.

My God. Wolverines ha a Ruger Redhawk 4.2 44 Mag in stock, this got me destabilzed... JP.:runaway:

I like the magna type grips on that Redhawk. I've got some ersatz smith ones coming from Thailand to try out.

Too many revolver grips today fill in too much behind the trigger guard, forcing the hand (mine anyway) far too low

S&W goes to all the trouble of making a 4.2 inch barreled 629 and they made two glaring mistakes IMO.

Should have made it with a Mountain Gun barrel profile if they went to all the trouble of a shorter barrel. Along with a round butt grip frame and rosewood grips, just like they got it right on the DX Classic.

Would have been a lot more classy looking and added eye appeal=more sales!

myself I wish they would bring back some square grip options outside of the classic line. I'm not sure what the appeal of the round butts are, but they weren't meant for the huge of hand. Same goes with finger grooves. My favourite grips aren't available in round to square conversion either

I'll keep my comments to the thread topic.... contemplating adding a Model 69 to go along with a 4.2" Model 629 and a Model 29 "Dirty Harry" gun.....

I've handled a friends new Model 69.... very impressive.... nice smooth action. Seems to be well made. Fit & finish on his example - excellent.

Down side for me [and I already own a vintage Model 29-2 with 6.5" factory barrel] is the Model 69 is on the smaller "L" frame and is only 5 shot. No real advantage for me. I am contemplating adding a Model 629 4.2" myself [Model 629 is "N" frame & 6 shot] at some point, though.

Also, personally, I am no longer a fan of big recoil in handguns. Did all that ~ 25 yrs ago when it was a bit of a novelty. These days I like to shoot my own .44 reloads..... 240 gr LWSC going out at around 850 fps. I also prefer to shoot "double action", to me that gives me an idea of how "practically" accurate the gun is & how my own shooting is. On the odd occasion I will still shoot a cylinder full of full house .44 Mags & even "single action" fire, just for the heck of it.

Bottom line.... if you want a Model 69 .44 Mag, then just get it. ;)

Which ones are your favourite?

these Nills are probably mine, but to your general point, they do force the hand a little low so dealing with full house 44 loads is a bit more challenging.
