I had been looking for a Sako M995 for a while. Found this on EE.
When I got it I was a little disappointed as it had some damage that I did not see in pictures.
My first thought was to send it back but I asked a friend to look at it to give a second opinion.
He convinced me it was a fair deal and that I could fix what I didn't like. I wasn't looking for another project
as I have some on the go already. However it turned out OK.Stock had some scratches I didn't like.

I decided to paint the stock. For those of you that remember how the car trunks had that spatter paint in the 70's that's what I got for paint.

Decided to put a clear coat over it.

Barrel had some bluing loss and scratches. I cleaned scratches off barrel and rethreaded it as the muzzle brake that was on it had damage.Since I had some hot bluing to do anyway I re-blued all parts for it.Made 2 new brakes and thread protector for it.

I made a couple of over sized bolt knobs for it also. Decided to try this one first. The other one was made in stainless.
Here is some pictures assembled.

If I could find some gunpowder maybe one day I can test shoot it.;)

What caliber is it? My dad has the stainless version in a .308 warbird. Does anybody know where you can get replacement stocks for these? Don't mean to derail but I couldn't find any of them anywhere. He was looking for a thumb hole stock but I couldn't even find any aftermarket stocks. They sure are well built rifles

This one is in 338 lapua. I haven't seen any aftermarket stocks either.

Have the same rifle in 30-378 Weatherby. Love it. Gave up the Remy .338 Lapua and kept this instead. Do not regret it at all.
