Date the application number showed up online - Feb 3
Cheque Cashed: Feb 13
Date references where called: March 31th
Date status changed from in progress to issued: March 31st
Date License showed up in mailbox : TBD
Province:Ontario

Note: I had an issue with my picture however... My status was changed to "more info required" around the 13th of March. I called the RCMP and they said that the guarantor of the photo needed to sign the back of the picture using the stickers provided on the application. Origninally I had just had the guarantor sign the sticker and forgot to attach it to the back of the photo (derp). I sent in the updated signature requirement with the paperwork on the 17th of Feb, it was received at Mirimachi on the 23rd. The status changed from "needing info" to "initial processing done" on the 6th of March.

Make sure your paperwork is completed up to 110% satisfaction...

- Called in to check everything OK: Mar 20, told reference can call in
- Ref called: Mar 20
- Checked in: March 25, told there's a backup with photo scanning.

Best April Fools ever. Application took 5 weeks to the day. Must be some kind of record.

Called for an update today, was told it was "With the CFO for approval in my province" -- I am in Ontario. Anyway I can speed this up? Want to get printed this week if possible.

Found the number for the Provincial CFO, called in and asked if there was any update (was very polite) they checked and said "it's approved now"

Moments later...

PAL - Quebec

sent via snail mail on march 9th
received at miramichi on march 13th
showed up online and credit card charged today april 1st

i'll update you when everything is done

Update:
Done PAL and RPAL courses in January, filled in forms and sent off including course results.
Received on February 4th according to tracking number
Called them mid-February, then showed up online 2 days later as received on Feb 9th.
Called again March 18th, told to ask one reference to call in which was done the same day.
Status online changed March 25, 'license issued and should be received within 2 weeks"
Total 43 days from date received to date issued.
Called them again on March 26 to ask for my license number and expiry date which I needed to register for a gun course for new gun owners (they only had a few spots left to register), which was provided by a friendly lady. Registered for course without any problems.
Arrived in mail today April 1st, in BC, 50 days in total since they received it.
My wife's application was sent in the same envelope to them and also arrived in mail today, same timeline.

For what it is worth, I called a gun store in Vancouver on March 27th to ask them to keep a rifle for me of which they had only one in stock, explaining that my PAL was issued but not in my hands yet, and I did not want to lose this particular rifle. They said they can keep it for me, but when he heard I had the number and expiry date of my PAL he said he will start the process to transfer the rifle if the government can confirm that PAL is valid. I asked him if it was legal and he said if they can confirm my PAL is valid it is perfectly legal. I received a shipping notification today. If you go this way make sure you have someone with a valid PAL to store your firearm for you in case you get the firearm before your own PAL shows up.

Overall I was quite impressed with their timeline, very helpful and friendly service, especially considering they are likely short staffed and overloaded with work. It is a huge responsibility to grant a PAL or RPAL, I certainly DO NOT want them to cut corners and issue a PAL by accident/oversight to the multitude of bad guys out there. The wait feels really long but it is necessary to keep guns out of the wrong hands.

My advice is to make SURE your form is filled out completely, send your safety course results along with your form, MAKE SURE your spouse is on board and tell your references why you need the firearms.
And then call them a few times a week or 10 days apart, be friendly and respectful. Good luck

2015/03/02: Application received at CFC by registered mail.
2015/03/23: Showed online
2015/03/23: Called to make sure everything was in order

I called this morning not realizing it had just showed up online (wasn't online last night). The guy I talked to was extremely friendly, confirmed some my information, and said everything appeared to be fine. At first he said to call back in 3 weeks, then I told him to have a good day as I was signing off and he said "You know what, call back early in the week after Easter". Not a huge improvement, but interesting to hear the change within a couple of sentences.

Seems to be moving along nicely. Dreading the apparent BC CFO overload though.

I Call for info:april 2 2015; Receive a polite answer, it should take an other 2 weeks. I said thank you and have a good day.

The same day they call back for the interview and they approve the rpal.

Mine took exactly 46 days from time it showed up at CFP to issued. February 13 they got it, March 31 approved and supposedly in the mail. Didn't check a whole lot online, I never called once, and as far as I know references were never contacted. Standard PAL only.

mailed feb 6th
received feb11th
showed online in begining of march
called serveral times
references called in around march 12th
called march 18th
called march 25th
showed issued online march 30th

days took to process: 48

Yours was issued on the 30th, have you received it yet? Mine was the issued on the 31st and I am just hoping I might get it by Friday

My understanding is they normally print them on Thursdays and mail them on Fridays, so with Friday and today being government holidays its hard to say, I have my fingers crossed that they will be in by this Friday. :)

Good luck mine was received 11 Dec and still nothing. Even after having my references call in. It has been sitting with the CFO for ever. Dam government workers.....hold on a second I am one also!!

I'm in Victoria as well. They received my app on Dec 9th. Its been at provincial CFO for a month now. Frustrating.

Maybe we did the same course?

Anyone ever take their courses at ready aim fire in oakville? The owner Tony (who never answers his phone or returns messages for days to weeks on end) said he would be sending us our stamped test results in the mail within 3-4 weeks. It's now been well over a month and still haven't received anything. I tried calling him today but of course no answer. I'd like to mail them in to get the ball rolling on my lisence. How long have some of you waited to get your results back?

Chris
