It looks like they have three on their website that could be non-refurbs. What do you guys think?
If they are non-refurbs would they be worn out and need refurbishing or would they be hardly used?
Thanks for any help as I have zero knowledge of this stuff.

Cheers

Have you talked to them directly? Just curious, as from what I hear these guys are real experts on the topic. I just ordered a refurb laminate from them. Costs a couple dollars more than elsewhere but I'm under the impression that these they have high quality products...guess we'll see soon!

I'm thinking if these were 'as-issued' non refurbished they would be a heck of a lot more, and if these are just non reburbs then they are more collector than shooter. This is just my thoughts so take my comments with a grain of salt.

If they have un-refurbished SKS (and they do from time to time) they know about it and charge a premium commensurate with the piece. As Bobbum Man says, they are experts, and along with Corwin Arms frequently have the nicest red rifles out there.

So what does un-refurb mean?
Is it they never got done but needed it? Or they were in good shape and didn't need refurbishing?
Thanks guys for the info.

I would think it was in good enough shape to not require refurbishing when they were collected prior to being stored. The vast majority were arsenal refurbished to replace missing or damaged parts. Usually gas tubes and stocks but sometimes more than that.

If you want a shooter i say the refurbished ones are your better bet because of price and the fact they got an overhaul prior to storage, so they should be in good working order.

OK, so that laminate sks ('54) arrived today. I'm happy, standard bbq metal, non chrome lined, but the stock is fantastic, came with all the goodies and was boxed up nice. Now just waiting on the 2 for 300 deal from tse to be delivered...

54 Russian sks? Should be chrome lined... only 49-51 Russian sks and all Yugo sks are not chrome lined.

I have a refurbed bbq painted one and a blued one, and i like the BBQ paint. Mine was done great at it almost matches my VZ58's finnish. I seen some refinnished ones at wholesale like they were can sprayed tho :D A good refurb to me looks great! like a new sks. I don't even know why you should want a non refurbish if you plan to shoot it.

I just take what looks in best shape refurbed or not.

I've picked up several non-refurbs from Westrifle. They are immaculate and museum piece worthy. These guys bring in their own rifles, as well as go look at them before buying. I'm 99.9 percent sure that they know which are best rifles when arrived, and keep them for their own customers.

Unlessa 54 receiver cover was put on an earlier production SKS during refurb. Seen it before. Would have to see pics of the SKS to confirm. Remember anything goes with the refurbs

Thanks guys.
That clears it up as I never really knew what non-refurbished meant.
Always thought they were well worn guns that never made it to the refurb line. lol

They should be easy to tell though? Wouldn't it have a force matched serial # to coincide with the receiver it's attached to? My has tube and piston have the serial electro penciled on so i know they are not original to the gun...

Not always. The receiver covers could easily be reworked and restamped to match the receiver. You can tell though because the other parts of the gun (gas block, bayo lug, rear sight block etc) will have the early gun features but with a late dated or no dated receiver cover.

Just buy one refurbed or not and be happy that its a high quality semi auto for 300$, If you like it its worth the money. By the time the SKS is valuable in Canada semi-auto will probaly be banned and long gone.

Not so. The rod on a gas piston is too small to stamp so they used electric pencil from new out of the factory. It is not an indication of refurbishment.
