Give me some Marlin 795 ideas please

Greetings

Had one of these awhile ago , was reliable and fun but fore end drove nuts was flimsy feeling to me
i sold it but regret it ever since.

I have seen boyds and that skinny tapco stock you have to cut out but other than that
what can be done with these please show me yours or give me
some info on who makes some options for upgrades on this model

Just sighted mine in today. 4X Bushnell. Very accurate especially compared to a 1022. I was shooting at 50 meters. 10 shot groups right around 1 inch. Could do better with a more powerful scope. The 1 inch black bullseyes were completely covered by my crosshairs. Very happy with it and my Marlin Model 60 too. Great 22s for the price. Micro Gruve works.
 
I have noticed that the quality of the plastic stock seems to vary based on year of production (maybe?). Specifically - mine is 2 years old, was probably made about 3-4 years ago, and has a very rigid stock and forearm (for tupperware).

I handled another that was somewhat older, and the stock and forearm seemed squishy - it seemed as though it flexed too much. So I left that one at the store. The stock color was even a little different than mine, as mine is more gray than black.

An acquaintance just picked one up a couple of months ago (new), and it seems as solid as mine.

I am not suggesting they are rock-solid, but while light, neither mine nor my acquaintance's seem "flimsy."

You might consider handling some new ones and seeing if they are as flimsy-feeling as yours was. It is possible that the problem is a QC or bad batch issue rather than the underlying quality of the tupperware stock.

Also, the model 60 comes with a wooden stock, and it does seem more "solid", but I didn't notice any improvement in grouping over my 795.

The tapco stock (for a model 60 - saw it last year in Edmonton) seems flimsier than the factory one mine has, particularly at the forend. The boyd's stock is undoubtably solid and well made, but probably pretty heavy - I haven't had any first had experience with it. There was a plastic stock made by Ramline that is well-regarded, but is no longer in production. There might be used or old-stock of that floating around, but it will take some searching.

Some folks with the older squishy stock have filled the stock with spray foam, and claimed that it made the whole affair stiffer. I thought I would have to do that too, but as I said, mine (claiming to be glass-filled nylon) seems more than solid enough so I didn't bother.

I have blued and stainless 795. The first thing i do with the stainless one is get rid of the front sight and replace it with the same type that is on the blued one. I will put a folding leaf rear sight on the blued on. Im looking at a trigger kit right now to see about making the trigger better. I have a model 60SCF as well, and found that one quite front heavy, so i filled the rear of the stock with duct seal in a plastic bag.
 
Hey Aaron~I just installed an MCARBO spring kit last night. I don't own a trigger pull gauge, but it feels much better. Thinking about attempting the sear modification, but feeling a bit reluctant. Don't want to mess it up!

Oh...and to the OP's question~the beauty of these guns is that they need very little to shoot well. The sights are crappy, but both of mine wear scopes. I actually removed the sights from my 795SS altogether~looks pretty sharp actually! :) As mentioned in my previous post, I just installed an MCARBO spring kit to lighten the trigger~seems to have tamed it right down...which is great! Contemplating tweaking the sear, but not sure I have the confidence for that job. The online tutorials are good.

But...overall, these are superb guns for the money. I feel no temptation to put a heavy, $200 Boyd's upgrade on either of mine. MAYBE a DIP trigger/trigger guard.

moe, did your promags not feed properly or was it a fit issue, I have noticed new they are tight for awhile but will loosen up, also when I tried mine in my papoose I noticed that the lever for the magazine safety disconnect kept jamming and bending, I took it apart bent it back and reassembled it, this never has happened with my 795 and they are effectively the same action, so maybe some actions are a little tighter than others, if its a feeding issue I am sure it could be addressed with the feed lips or something, there are a bunch of real good trigger mod vids and such on you tube as well.
my 795 is fairly stock trigger lightened up a little, I added a fairly inexpensive scope and bipod, bought a few pro mag 25 rounders, runs like a top, best part is my 10 year old daughter loves it, its nice and light with no recoil at all, I would like to eventually maybe get another one and put it in one of those fibreforce stocks but who knows.
I do believe as hometownhero says load em and shoot em, accurate, fun and reliable even bone stock

It's a model 70 I bought in 1986. Essentially a 795 without a last shot bolt catch. I have put an ATI stock on it meant for a 795 without issue. I had to remove nubs at the top of the mag bodies to allow them to seat far enough. My best friend has a 795 and also bought some of these mags. He has the original stock on his and so did not have to remove the material. Both guns have about 2 jams per mag with no patern when they show up with all 4 mags. we ran about 1000 rds of CCI mini mag through them. We gave up.

that sucks, you are running good ammo too, i never have jams with that stuff, that's too bad sorry to hear that
 
Just finished sighting my 795 Marlin and it was so happy it couldn't control itself. Seriously, my 795 is a ammo hog, it loves all brands.
