sks accuracy?

talked to someone who grew up in Eastern Europe. He said that they would pick out SKS rifles from a box, shoot all of them, and then pick the most accurate one to take home. So yes - variability in accuracy is to be expected. I would not buy this rifle for that purpose, because who wants to experiment with which rifle is the accurate one with your own money? If gun stores allowed us to do the same: shoot every gun in their inventory and picked the one we'd like, I might be persuaded to get one.

Do you still have the bayonet on it? Could effect harmonics.
Trigger control, slow pull no jerking? Breathing technique is a must to learn.
My disconnector was worn down causing a hard gritty initial take up of slack as the trigger bar ground along the under side of the trigger group. The trigger bar should not touch anything until it contacts the sear. Trigger pull is hard on these but you want to remove as much roughness as you can. You can view this by have the rifle assemble out of the stock and watching through the little hole on the left side of the TG. Clean, polish and grease carefully what U-tube tells you. If unsure... DON'T.

The front post can be turned down if you have a drill press. I did mine and went from approx 2mm to 1.4mm post, paint flat black.
Better for bad eyes. From what I have read expect 4" - 6" groups at 100 meters with practice.

There is absolutely nothing in an SKS that is designed for accuracy. If you shoot <5 MOA you have a good one (@100); a very small number shoot somewhat better and a lot shoot worse.

The 7.62X39 cartridge has significant potential for accuracy but not in an SKS.

Short sighting radius, clunky trigger, inconsistent stock mounting, too little weight, too much mass in motion during recoil etc. etc. Great for its intended purpose which isn't putting groups of holes in paper off a bench.

My sks seems to be very accurate. Hitting a 6x8 gong at 100 is pretty easy with even iron sights. I'm pretty happy with how it shoots considering I won't be putting a scope on it.

I don't think you can really test for X moa accuracy without some soft of scope...

for the folks inquiring about the 500 meter target there are 5 hits on the target and no tumbling. 2 near the top one around the middle and two near the bottom. Done with stock irons.

Also with the SKS it seems like the cartridge sits way back in the chamber, compared to other semi-autos? Am I correct on that?

Nice vid....but hard to believe. He's got that muzzle swinging all over the place. That also looked closer to 50 yds.

Meh... it's feasible with a steady hand and a well adjusted sight, as long as the rifle has a good and tight bore. Crappy surplus ammo probably doesn't do it any favors either (vs. using quality commercial ammo).

Also, as a side note, it must feel awesome to be able to dump a WHOLE stripper clip of rounds into that box mag! The way it was always intended to be, before our dear Libtards peed their pink panties in 1995 and made a law against it...

Also, while we're on topic of SKS accuracy, here's a trigger job vid that's supposed to take care of a lot of the "creep" and "grittyness" of that stock SKS trigger.

Supposedly, it's the most complete and comprehensive "how to" video that may actually help with better accuracy :

Lol....its painful whenever I see that. I feel so inadequate

gunsprings.com direct or site sponsors in Canada (Hical.ca has them usually I think) It helped my trigger a lot!

guy is 'handy' but no gunsmith! use a micrometer as you file buddy... He has a good understanding of the trigger group though. I did all this a few years back, and it works well. I did not shorten the sear though as the creep wasn't bad

Actually you can thank the Kim Campbell Conservatives for that rivet....

I can't hit #### with my sks at 100 yards, I spent 3 hours at the range and I just could not not keep my shots on my standard printer paper target, is it possible my sks is a lemon or am i just a newb?

I moved to the 25yard range and my shots were scattered to the right of my point of aim....

Put a bayonet on it and chuck it like a spear, you'll probably get more accuracy at 100m
