I am on the fence and can't decide whether to get Remington 700P LTR or Tikka T3 Tactical. The Tikka is $400 more, and I don't know it worth $400 extra compare to the Remington.

I want the gun to be multipurpose (for anything really), and I don't plan to change any of the stock and just looking to get a nice scope and bipod. I don't plan to reload for now, but maybe in the far future.

Looking for opinions from those who experienced with these two particular rifles.

Thank you.

i have the 700 LTR in 308 with the fluted barrel
offer me as much cash as you have and i will never sell it to you.
best rifle i have ever owned.

i cannot speak for the tikka

I had this very same dilemma approximately a year ago. They each have their own pro's and con's. I'm not totally sure now, but at the time, Remlin was putting out some items of dubious quality, so naturally, I went with the TikTac.

If I were to do it over again, even at this time? I would still go with the TikTac. They even have AI stocks that accept the 5 and 10 round AICS mags, if required.

As for looking for a "multipurpose" rifle, I'm not sure what that all entails, but, I will say the TikTac isn't a great choice, neither is the the LTR because of the barrel profiles.
Once you scope, bipod up, I'm willing to bed it clocks in at hefty 13-15 LBS. I would consider these rifles more precision then multipurpose.

That all said, you will enjoy either one that you pick!

I own a LTR and have a Tikka T3 lite(used to have two). Both are great guns and have their pros and cons.

I like that the tikka comes off the shelf with a detachable mag, the actions are smooth as silk, and personally i find the triggers on the tikka's great(similar to timney) i have a jewell and timney on my remingtons.

I like the stock better on the LTR and i find it to be slightly more accurate. The aftermarket parts for remington give you a lot of options though some companies are breaking into parts for the tikkas recently.

I would weigh it out, either way they are both great guns. The $400 extra up front for the tikka will get you a drop out mag that the remington doesn't have if you were planing on making that upgrade. I think the tactical model gives you and adjustable comb as well. I do love my LTR though. Shop around and keep an eye on the EE for a deal, tough decision and it looks like your poll is split right down the middle so far.

I had this exact same dilemma, well, actually I was set on a Remington. Then the sales guy hands me a Tikka and told me to cycle it and that was all it took to sell me on that Finnish piece of perfection. I promise you you'll love the Tikka and never look back.

look at the tikka CTR

Tikka CTR ia $800 less than Tikka T3 Tactical
Why such a big difference is price?
The Remington 700P Tactical is $400 more than the CTR.

My suggestion is to buy a t3 varmit and put it in a mdt hs3 chassis, will only be a few hundred more than the tactical. Will have the same barrel, trigger and mag... i don't see paying 400 for a threaded muzzle and cheek riser. But definitely tikka over the remy.

Bingo. The T3 Varmint is a much much better value than the Tac. About the only reason to get the Tac would be if you didn't want to tinker or modify.

because it is not a tactical. It is a little more than the Varmint model but these are the immediate differences I noticed between it and the CTR.

CTR has a Slimmer stock, threaded barrel, scope rail, large bolt knob and coated bolt, and of course the 10rnd steel mag

Question: How many Long Range precision shooters, military snipers, or police sharpshooters that you know of have or use a Tikka T3? Exactly! LTR and you can't go wrong, period!

My buddy's Tik Tac shoots beer bottles at 500 meters with handloads.
What more do you wish ?

But the Tikka stock is cheap. Beware.
The rest is perfect.

Many more than use an off the rack LTR.

Between the trigger recall, poor machining and finishing, off kilter mount holes and other issues, you can most surely go very very wrong with a Remington.

I would challenge anyone to find similar issues reported with Tikkas, let alone issues on the scale that Remingtons have.

With that train of thought, a glock is a better pistol then every other company.

I bought a 700P in .223 years ago, it shot very well, but the firing pin fit loosely in the bolt face so the primers ALWAYS cratered. That made it tough to judge pressure in my reloads. I traded it in for a Tikka Tactical.

The Tikka may or may not be slightly more accurate. The 700P stock was nicer aside from the adjustable comb on the Tikka. It is hard to single-feed rounds into the Tikka if you are shooting competitively - there are adapters available to fit the magazine that help this situation. The bolt shroud on a Tikka is plastic - Remington doesn't have one. The TicTac muzzle is threaded for a brake, but I never found one in .223 caliber. The 700P trigger was good, but more recent rifles may have the X-mark that is under recall. The Tikka trigger is excellent.

Years later, I still think it's a toss up.
