Tradex has a large selection of Schultz and Larson .22s again...

how do we check headspace on .22?

I have used Plastigage to check headspace on my CZs. Basically it is a piece of plastic extrusion of a controlled diameter that you put on the face of your bolt. By closing the bolt you "squish" the plastic and based on the width of the collapsed extrusion the supplied scale gives you a measurement of the gap. It is sold in automotive supply stores (about $10 if I remember correctly). I use green (gives you measurements between 0.025 and 0.076 mm) or red (0.051 and 0.152 mm).

couldn't resist bought the last mod M77 on the page. number 2 for me. I need a shim for the first one to tighten up headspace if anyone has figured something that is the same dia

I'll check some AR15 peel washers I have tonight and see how they are....might be close.
Peel washers are too big, the shims in one of my M77 has an ID of approx 11mm and OD of approx 17mm, and is 0.5mm thick. To check the thickness of shim you might need, I would take the bolt apart, remove spring and striker, put handle on bolt and both in rifle. Use a feeler guage on the rear/locking side of the bolt where it locks up to the receiver, that should tell you how thick of a shim you require.

No idea re the headspace sorry :(
Range report time. This sucker performed like a champ! Reliable n no extraction issues. Even figured out n solved my tight bolt,, now smooth as butter. Re aiming,, it was very accurate and consistant but shooting a bit low. Rear dial sight set screw tight as hell so couldnt adjust,, will need to grab some gunsmith/hollow pt screwdrivers to get her loose, but should be fine.

Hey,, question for those more knowlegable than me,,

This is a pic of my trigger group. My bud has same rifle and the trigger group looks identical except his doesnt have that blk long alan screw near the end of the group.

Is this a trigger adjustment screw, or what is it for.?

I finally got the M61 that I ordered today, only two weeks after than Canada Post originally said it would be here. So far it seems pretty good, other than the bolt release seems stuck. It's a button on top of the action that should push down to let the bolt out, but something must be blocking it. And the bonus is that the rear action screw is under the bolt and can't be removed with the bolt in place. Not the end of the world, it's actually not that dirty. The barrel is free floated all the way to the action on this one and the action is much heavier duty than on my M58. The sights are offset to the left a bit, that'll take some getting used to. The trigger pull is incredibly light, according to the Info I found, it's supposed to be 1.5oz. This gun makes my M58 feel like a lightweight toy, it's pretty heavy. Unfortunately, I won't be able to shoot it for a while. I'm moving this summer, so I didn't renew my range membership when it expired at the beginning of the month. And all my usual spots in the bush are either still snowed in or too muddy to get to right now. I did take a couple quick pictures of it though.

Bolt release at top of action. Rear sight slides into dovetail in side of action and is secured by two thumb screws.

Bolt is similar to M58 and M70 but has a second locking lug.

Offset sights. Rear sight is totally different than M58/M70

Hitzy I blame you for this madness. I just got my first M77 in the mail today. This one is for my girlfriend. I am blown away with the quality of this rifle. The rifle you get for $295 is unreal.

I'm so blown away I just ordered one for myself. I can't wait to test these rifles out.

Not sure if its been covered already, with 20 pages to scroll through,, but does anyone know what size Anschutz inserts fit our front sights?

Only the one size for anschutz I believe....Lyman model 70 are the same as well. You can get some from these guys in Canada

Also here is a good 50m target.... Changing from portrait to landscape makes it a bit smaller too

I stopped by Tradex yesterday, and Anthony showed me a book they sent him on the history of S&L....it was a THICK book. The stuff they made pre-war was something else, all kinds of rimfire and center fire target rifles based on Martini actions, double set triggers, heavy target stocks....they made a 4 lug rear locking centerfire with a 50 degree bolt throw....in the 30's! They were very dedicated target shooters....we only see a fraction of the different models they made, there were dozens and dozens of really cool high quality target rifles.
And there will be another batch of these coming mid Summer which is good news

Nice looking rifle! What ammo does it take? 6.5 Swede round? Or German Mauser 8?

Ya. I dont think this will be my 1st and only. Would like to get an M77 next with adjustable trigger.

Thx for the earlier tips Hitzy,, I ordered a bunch of new front sights from Nordic and one of those pink plastic type ones off ebay...

I pretty sure I bought one of the last good M77 yesterday.

The bolt look rough and the stock could use refinishing but everything else seem to be in good shape.

30266- Schultz & Larsen Single Shot Target Rifle in 22 lr. Very good bore. Heavy barrel. Danish diopter sight. Adjustable trigger. Shows some handling marks. Overall good to very good condition
