The Old Queen could sure put a hurt on.........

Boomer, what is the date of the publication you posted on Peters internal belted bullets?
The as states Peters is a division of Remington. Looking up the Peters history, one source states Remington bought out Peters in 1934, while another source states it was 1944.

Just read this on another forum.

My current project is, hang on, a lightweight 340 Wby Mag in a McMillan stock. It will be a long range Woods Bison rifle for carrying while hunting on snowshoes.

Sounds like the FUDD is growing weak in this one, esp considering the recent interest in the 375Ruger.

I believe the 1934 date is correct, in 1942 Remington was expanding the Peters facility to keep up with the demands of wartime production. The date of the add was 1940, I found it on line, I don't actually have the paper ad. When I was a kid I used to keep my nose buried in old Sports Afield and Field and Stream magazines from 1947-49; both ran adds for Peters in comic book style, but I don't recall Peters being referred to as R-P, just Peters. In hindsight, there might have been a Dupont logo after the Peters name as in the add above.

I was always under the impression Remington brass said R-P due to the Remington/Peters connection. I'm not read up on the subject entirely, nor do I hold a Fudd card, so it ain't gospel.

What 300 H&H iron are you taking to the range Mr Wagner?

From Rem archives. "Work on the Model 760 resumed in late 1943 , with three sizes of receivers to chamber the .300 H & H Mag., the .30-06 Sprg, the .35 Rem., the .22 Hornet and the .30 Carbine."

I have some old Remington brass for my H&H and its headstamped REM - UMC 300 MAGNUM .
No idea how old it is, perhaps pre-war ?

FN Sporter with an old Lyman All American scope w post and crosshair reticule.

I'll take it.

I wouldn't shoot that. Too classic. Keep it for the 'Fudd Museum'.

Ted, can you shoot those over a chronograph, to see just what puny ammunition we used to have?
Bruce

How about we pull the bullets, replace them with some 220 gr Hornady RNs, and chronograph them? That should give us a pretty good idea.

Ted

Finally got to the range today (just three months later), and chronographed those loads......2675 and 2668 fps. That would definitely hurt!

Checked the sighting with a few 180 gr handloads, and they were a bit shy of 2700. I know....that is not much better than a 30-06.

Definately a nice clean look.

It certainly looks to be in very nice condition and is a lot sharper looking than my old 721.
If there ever was a more plain looking rifle than my old Remington I have yet to see it, but is probably the most reliable rifle I will ever have.
Its put more game in our freezers than all of my other rifles together.
