Right well I bought a tasty glass and mounted it to my bang stick, Sako Piccy, Weaver grand-slam "High" rings (Newer 4 bolt made in the USA rings) As recommended by the dealer when he apparently test fitted the glass to HB rifle with these mounts.

How low is too low? I can slide the cardboard from the weaver packaging between. It starts to stall out when I try two. I cannot freely slide the lens cover on either.

Zeiss HD5 scope and a HB Tikka.

Show me your light bending scope / barrel gap!

I've seen animations of a scope's action in recoil - basically to show that the front bell will bend down in recoil, as the rifle moves back and up under it. The barrel vibrates as well. You do not mention if this is 22LR or 338 Lapua, but either way, if that were mine, I would be concerned about whether or not there is contact on firing. Being an old guy and generally old school, I would slide a piece of carbon paper or typewriter ribbon under the bell and a piece of typewriter paper under that, and fire. If there was contact, the carbon paper would imprint on the paper. So, in 2015, I guess I would use inletting black on the scope bell, and computer printer paper...

Can you slide the scope forward in the rings a mil or two? May help you get some space. I'm a fan of low scopes but that is tight. After you fire it, look for a rub mark on the bell.

Sorry guys, the rifle is a .204 Ruger so not a 'Big' bang.

I have slide the scope as far forward as I like. I can now fall asleep behind this gun it's that nice a fit.

I had to grind the Piccy rail down with a flap wheel so the Mag ring turns freely.

Yeah she's tight. I might try the old 'Carbon paper trick or alternative.

Bolt open 'Check'

See through the dam thing 'Check'

I have (Depending on scope position) 10 to 15 grand of clearance.

The front ring is real close to the bell taper, so the bell is supported probably as good as it can be.

Will give we a go tomorrow.

Well thanks for the input. She's gonna get a few wacks tomorrow.

Any other method to monitor the possible Barrel / scope interaction?

Tin foil maybe? Not sure I will be able to get any carbon paper. I don't live near major population centres.

That could work in favour. The paper from old credit card machines that took an imprint would probably work. Also the paper they use most places for receipts marks when you scratch it.

Sometimes worry too much causes big groups.
I get them close like this, sometimes a wee bit tighter.

That's reassuring. After a messed with it and squared the reticle, she's even closer. I have influenced the scope a little and I don't think she will hit.

Thanks. I remember the old CC sliders. I will pop to the local banks tomorrow and see if I can beg / steal / borrow. I was thinking about those reactive paper targets. You know, the ones that turn orange on impact.

Well I shot 25 rounds. No scope / barrel interaction. I have the gap down to 8 thou.

Best group @ 100yrds with variable wind direction and magnitude.

Yes! The gun shoots better than me.

Thanks for the imput / pictures fellas.
