This is a single-shot straight-pull bolt-action benchrest style rifle with a custom chambered Israeli 1919a4 barrel. The action is fully bedded with two aluminum pillars. The magazine is a shortened duckbill-less Tapco and locks in similar to the marcus adapter via a custom aluminum ramp just behind the Anschutz accessory rail and is released by my custom "Talon" extended release. The stock is solid black-walnut fitted with a Vostok adjustable buttplate assembly, a solid Ebony nose-cap, and an Ebony grip-cap. The Scope rail was completely custom made as well.

Anywho... on to the pics!

I really need to play with some more hand-loads..... but this was with Yugo-m67 ammo.. The best 5 shot group so far at 100 Yards.

WOW! Incredibly ingenious and just awesome all around!

 :HFU:

Did you do all the work yourself or was it custom made by someone else? Also, how much are you into this thing? Must've been quite expensive with all those custom parts on it!

In any case, congrats on a beautiful and unique rifle!

A gunsmith friend of mine chambered the.308 barrel with target crown and threaded it for the reveiver. Took me the better part of two years to build it. Cost? .. somewhere around $500us with scope. I already had a parts bin with everything sks related to be used.

That's all really? Wow, nice rig you've had built there, very nice indeed.

Thanks!

Welp,.. Its been complete now for over a year and I haven't had much time to mess with reloads. I work away from home which contributed to the amount of time invested building the rifle. The few loads I 'did' try were actually averaging 1/8 to 1/4 larger 5 shot groups then the above pictured using surplus Yugo. :/

I hope to get it down to consistently shoot sub 1" at 100y. 3/4" would be nice!

Very well done, but a rather strange pursuit nonetheless IMHO.

The intent was to eliminate a few contributing factors at a time in an attempt to narrow down where the sks and x39 lost its accuracy. The rifle at one time had a stock Yugo barrel which it was found the chamber dimensions were atleast half the issue. Harmonics, bedding, pillars etc were the first issues addressed from the start of the build, along with elimination of the gas system as a variable. The barrel is completely free floating minus the first 1.75" forward of the receiver at the forward pillar/action mount location.

All sks rifles have an enormous jump to the lands and the angles just forward of the mouth are all wrong for accuracy. It actually more resembles a machine gun chamber which makes sense considering it was originally designed to keep operating under extreme conditions including debres etc. The reamer that cut this chamber was custom altered by the manufacturer to eliminate several angle issues and reduce the jump to lands. Given the bore is a true .308 and not .310/.311 and the changes to the chamber, I have to watch my pressures with reloads. Factory loads were tested and 'some' showed signs of slight primer bulging, but I have not experienced a popped primer as of yet.

This was a craps and giggles build out of curiosity and purely just to have fun.

That is the "Ultimate" SKS. Well done.

Your accuracy limit will be the ammo. I doubt milsurp will do much better than 1.5". Hand loads should go a bit under an inch.

Please keep posting your results. I hope you have various flavours of milsurp to try.

I've always figured that the (tapped on)muzzle assembly in itself made the rifle unsuitable for any sort of accuracy. I've wondered what difference a one-piece barrel would make.

The target posted in the OP was with Yugo mil m67 ammo and measures 1" 1/16
