SKS Bench-Gun Just For Fun

Very impressive indeed. Funny, but I was reading about your project on the sksboards just three days ago - (you are Mr. Coinring aren't you?) ht tp://www.sksboards.com/smf/index.php?PHPSESSID=2779f793e3befeb2db4e00b59e31c63e&topic=116706.0

That is a very nice piece of work, and it seems to shoot pretty good as well. I shouldn't have looked at this post because its making me think about another project, as if I don't have enough of them on my to do list....

The target posted in the OP was with Yugo mil m67 ammo and measures 1" 1/16

Yes.

I was referring to the grouping ability of the ammo. If you shoot a bunch of groups you will see that the group size is determined by one or two shots that make the group bigger. if that flier happens to go into the group, instead of out of it, you get an exceptional group. Like the one he posted.

But that single group has little to with the grouping ability of the ammo - which is about 1.5 minutes, at best.

I built a rifle specifically for the purpose of testing this milsurp ammo.

In 'your' gun. Mine likes the Yugo and can do that consistently. All guns shoot dif with dif ammo. Just look at bench 22lr. Twist rates, head spacing, harminics. No offence, but I never pay much attention to ammo side/side comparison posts like that. Too many variables in rifles AND ammo lots etc. :d

I wonder what could be achieved with a match grade barrel, rather than a surplus machinegun barrel?
