1944 (2015) - another WW2 Eastern front movie

Somebody mistakenly joined two totally unrelated topics in one. For the documentary on anti-German and anti-Soviet Ukrainian Insurgent Army see this post - http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php/1226340-Documentary-The-Ukrainian-Insurgent-Army-chronicles-1942-1954?p=11294056&viewfull=1#post11294056

For the feature film on Estonian SS volunteers see below.
For all you SVTs/MNs/Mausers/MGs fans Estonian movie.
I spotted sniper SVT in the trailer. Haven't seen or heard anything about the movie so can't comment if it's worth watching.

Looks like it will be yet another one of those East-European flicks that's 95% love story and drama filmed in an indoor studio and 4.9% actual combat... the remaining 0.1% being reserved for really cheesy CGI scenes that make WWII Playstation games look more realistic.

There's a reason why movies with small budgets suck. Don't expect another "Enemy at the Gates" or "Saving Private Ryan" with this one, lol!

(P.S. Movie trailers are usually very deceptive, especially when it comes to the low budget stuff!)

Check out tge Finnish movie Winter War. 10,000 extra in period uniforms with correct rifles gun and even tanks. Period air raft making actual bombing runs. All filmed in winter and no CGI. Best war movie I ever watched and no love story.

Estonian SS with a Kitten... AND what looks like a grenade !!!

Only one ne SS man there, the German on the left. The Estonians refused to wear the runes and designed their own symbol based on the Estonian army. Because of this they had Scrounge a lot of equipment of dead Russians as the Germans withheld pay and heavy equipment. The Estonian stuck to their guns and even disarmed Germans leaving Estonia so as to fight a terror war against the Soviets into 1954.

Documentary - The Ukrainian Insurgent Army chronicles 1942-1954 and WW2 Eastern front

Here's finally something good in English on the topic. For all who love the history and guns and interested in what was happening on the East. A lot of HD footage of reenactors with period correct Ukrainian, Soviet, German, Hungarian uniform (though I spotted one incorrect item), lot of weapon - again German, Soviet, Czech, Hungarian (some rare specimens too). Very general and short (but still good) overview of history of UPA starting from the anti-German actions and followed by anti-Soviet ones.

That's true. Documentary touches this subject very briefly as Ukrainian nationalists understood German politics very fast as their leaders were captured, some executed and some high rank imprisoned. But for the regular ppl after Soviet rule Germans were liberators. All Red Army prisoners of Ukrainian descent were released on spot as soon as they were able to prove they were Ukrainians (relatives could attest or if you speak Ukrainian). A lot of free press emerged, some businesses, theaters, movies. Small cities and villages were able to elect their heads. But then German Wehrmacht moved further to East and German civil administration resorted to expropriation, forced labor and terror. And that changed everything.

History aside I enjoyed very good operator and director work and all fighting reenacting. It's worth watching even for this.

First time I have seen someone use a MG property, instead of endless fire with out changing barrels like you see in movies...

762mm,

That winter war movie was decent. Only thing that was strange was the guy shooting the SVT-40, every time he shot he would pull back on the bolt. Last time I checked it was semi auto. Maybe he kept getting jammed up
