sks accuracy?

It's not the SKS, OP... it's you! :p

(check out this dude's groupings at 100 yards)

Yup. Because that guy obviously knows how to handle it properly.

Most westerners shoot like this guy:

This is why your groups suck. Get your cheek on that comb and slam your face against the receiver. It's not your daddy's .303.

I can't hit #### with my sks at 100 yards, I spent 3 hours at the range and I just could not not keep my shots on my standard printer paper target, is it possible my sks is a lemon or am i just a newb?

I moved to the 25yard range and my shots were scattered to the right of my point of aim....

Sounds like you need to adjust your sights. That's very common on the refurbed SKSs. You can get a sight adjustment tool on ebay for about $10, and maybe some of the site sponsors have them available. It's pretty easy.

Most SKS are capable of 3-4 inches at 100 meters with good eyes and good ammo. Some will do worse, a few will do better. Most people can't shoot iron sights very well at 100 meters and beyond without some practise.

Sight your rifle in at 25m. Once you have it on paper and start to get some grouping you can try longer. There's no point blasting away at 100 meters if you're not on paper and don't know how to adjust the sights to bring it back on to the target.

I took it back out now that the weather is nicer out, when i was first shooting it it was -40 and windy as hell! yesterday i shot it and it was shooting likea beaut so i guess ill blame it on the wind haha, or just a off day i guess? And i was shooting 1/4 pieces of standard printing paper, i found my targets today, guess i was expecting too much out of my sks lol!

My Chinese SKS was a bloody lazer yesterday. I was shooting pieces of broken clays off hand at 80 yrds. Ridiculous.

Mine isn't to bad when u get the sights dialed in, their fun to plink steel or clays. It's my go too quadn gun. but if u wanna bench rest with paper then it'll just make you mad if u expect YouTube groups (I call a 3 shot 4" with those terrible irons a great success). U want accuracy buy a vz58, mine was under 3" with irons and the shooting stability ud expect with those big bananas. 1.5-2" with a little scope. If I wanted to make a sub moa video I could probably shoot 5 groups and edit it so it shoots sub moa my first try as with the ska, where I've made few and far between unreal groups.

I know it's a great conversation peice at the range when you see a guys got one of those expensive whole gun rests and still can't make groups they expect or tell you it did the last time. Like its Russian surp. Dial it in on paper and have fun plinking.

both my Russian and Chinese sks shot 4 inches high and 3 inches to the right or left consistently, So most will require front sight adjustment. I guess they don't always put the front sight on straight during refurbishment.

I bedded my Laminate SKS a couple days ago with JB Weld to take out the 1/16" forward reverse play in the stock. Also did a trigger job on it a while back. Wow! I had no idea it would make so much of a difference. Before I was lucky to get 6-8" groups at 100M. Today, I was hitting 2-3" groups many times at 100 M with the iron sights! I'm not the best shot so this was a very exciting day for me. Check these out

I always found it intriguing that most people complain about SKS sights and have no problems with most pistol sights. It's the same damned sight picture!

Well.... but its not.

Handguns are maybe 6" from fronts to rears, while an SKS is 20" separated. Either the fronts or rears will be much more out of focus than on handgun.

Handguns you use from 7 to 25 meters... on a 20" target.

An SKS you'll use at 200m or further, on a 10" target. Maybe.

So yea, same shape, but the configuration and expectations are really quite different.

Mine shoots quite well, just as good as my Vz 58. Although I use a rear Williams Firesight with no adapter. I just center my front post in the circle and almost always hit what I aim at in the 100 yard range with surplus ammo. My SKS kicks ass man!
