Tavor 300 Blackout

Nicely done, especially that it'll work with both types of 300 blackout ammo.

*********

Now your next project should be converting a 300 blackout SL8. That would make a very interesting long range precision semi-auto platform AND a 7.62 caliber hunting rifle, for those requiring a minimum of 30cal for hunting certain 4 legged critters.

It is the only reason why I'm not sinking the ridiculous amount of money SL8s go for: limited useS.

Without watching the vid, does it cycle subsonics?

5 rounds but he doesn't say what ammo he's using or how smoothly it cycles the supersonics with the current setup.

The Tavor has never really done much for me but this is helping. Problem is that unless something has changed recently his conversion will require sacrificing the original barrel to aquire a barrel extension since none have been available through the importer.
I would like to see some groups printed with a Tavor with a quality barrel in it (either 223 or 300BLK) as I still think the design of the rifle will not allow for incredible accuracy (not compared to what the ACR or an AR can do with a comparable barrel anyway).

Looks like a nicely done conversion Ian, I look forward to hearing more about it. Thank you once again for being the first in Canada to bring us something the manufacturers have neglected to consider giving us.

Not sure how familiar you are with the 300BLK cartridge but if you want a long range precision rifle you would be better off with a 223/5.56. Not that it isn't an accurate cartridge as 2 of mine can shoot sub moa and the third probably will as well once I start doing some load development but for long range you are really lobbing them in to the target.

When you think about the performance and the manufacturer standing behind it the SL8 is actually one of the best values out there right now. I've owned 2 of them since they first came to Canada and both could shoot right around 1 moa regularly, sometimes a little better and sometimes a little worse. The last one I had was fitted with the HERA Arms gen 2 lower and an ACR folding stock and it was a great rifle. The only reason I sold that one was that I wanted the multi-cal of the ACR and since owning it Suputin helped me with a 300BLK barrel which happens to be one of the rifles I own that will shoot sub moa most days with my 155gr supersonic handloads.

300BLK for a hunting cartridge on deer would be very capable as long as the shooter understands the limitations of the cartridge and keeps the distances to around 150 yards or closer and selects a quality projectile that will perform at the lower velocities. This is not a tiny .308 winchester, it gives up quite a bit of velocity and I wouldn't use mine on animals at any extended distances.

It is also almost a prerequisite that the person be a handloader, there are plenty of commercial loads available but the good stuff is expensive.

If you could get your hands on a barrel extension for an SL8 I have no doubt that it could be fitted with a 300BLK barrel and could easily be made to function reliably. My ACR cycles super and subsonic without issues but I haven't tried any factory subs in it yet as I shoot 99% handloads through my 300BLK's.

Waiting for what? Did you send one in for conversion?

From the website:

After two years of development, testing and evaluation we are proud to announce the following details on our Tavor Blackout

At present we are only able to offer conversion of your Tavor rifle to 300Blackout by removing and modifying your original gas block and barrel extension, this will render your 223 Rem barrel unusable. We are and have been for some time working on producing stand alone conversion kits, once we have a production schedule we will announce the details here.
Conversion is quite involved and will require your rifle be shipped to us in complete form, this allows us to test fire post conversion and ensures a quality product.
The good news is that your converted 300 Blackout Tavor will function properly with both subsonic and supersonic ammunition, requiring no gas adjustments and without a sound suppressor.
Thanks for your interest
