I'm looking to get my first black rifle I've looked at every option but there's not one gun that's really can do it all but what do you guys have and why did you choose it what do you love about it. I'm looking for something with accuracy and ergo but ar is a good platform I find its over done and I want something non restricted.
 
Sorry, but many are going to say we need more information like:

Budget for rifle... (really makes a huge difference in choice)

What optics planned (if any)... (also makes a huge difference regarding budget)...

Expected accuracy (MOA, 2-3MOA...)...

calibre wanted (.223, 308, 7.62x39...)...

Will you be hunting and if so how large of game...

Do you have plans to be in competitions of any kind...

These are a few of the questions needing answers if one is to make an accurate choce of what NR black rifles would be suitable.



There are a few decent NR Black rifle choices, but I don't feel any one NR rifle has it all like I believe an AR is capable of (minus the NR status of course).

I suppose a Swiss Arms could do it all, but there are NR issues (to put it lightly) right now with that particular rifle. Your budget will dictate what rifles/optics you can choose from and then the level of accuracy you want along with calibre choice will be other determining factors.

Many may suggest XCR-L/XCR-M rifles as a decent do it all NR semi.-auto. It comes in multiple calibres and has many happy owners, but does cost well over $2,000 before tax and optics.

If your more budget minded and don't plan on hunting, perhaps a pistol calibre semi.-auto. rifle like the 9mm JR Carbine for under $1,000?

Please give us some info. to help narrow down the list.

Don't forget what are your shooting abilities?

I like irons and I am not in a race to reload mags, so a T97 is fine for me.
Despite that, I also own another dozen and a half rifles in 5.56mm because I like them and I am a technical junkie who likes looking at and playing with different systems.
 
I'm looking for something .223 caliber or over I want decent accuracy but I'm not expecting to make it shoot like a bolt action rifle or anything it would be for target and hunting but wouldn't be my primary hunting weapon. I've really been tossing around the xcr and acr but I think I like the acr more I like the tavor as well I'm looking for good ergo along side being non restricted so if I wish to hunt with it I can.
 
If a .223 is what you are looking for then go with the Tavor ergo's are great compact NR as well and is cheaper then an ACR. an XCR is a great rifle as well but is a heavy one too. unless you go with the light barrel and keymod upper.
 
Just a note, .223/5.56 may not be sufficient size to hunt bigger game such as deer depending on the province you are hunting in.

I own both a Tavor and XCR Keymod light barrel model in 5.56. Both are great, and I really don't know which I would pick anymore if I could pick just one.
 
Well I like the tavor xcr and acr the most I think they are the most adaptive platforms for what I want like I said it wouldn't be my main hunting rifle it's really a toss up for me I want a decent moa to and I don't know the diffrence between them for accuracy.
 
I was also looking at the rfb but I have little info on it and really don't know what to expect from it being it the relative cost as a tavor which is tested and proven. I do like the rfb as well though I'm open to any firearm really I just as long as it's non res

Do to the XCR-L's $2,350+tax price tag I would say that it may not be the best choice for a first NR fun rifle.

You could buy a Ruger 10/22 (reliable & decent .22 LR semi.-auto. rifle) a Ruger Mini-14 (decent, reliable although not very accurate .223 semi.-auto. rifle) & still be able to afford a Ruger Gunsite Scout (.308 Scout style bolt action rifle) too, all for the same price as a new XCR-L.

I could go on, but you get my point. Just something to consider, since I did say earlier many are happy with their XCR's.

You need to consider if buying an original or unmodified ACR (since it is my understanding that all new to Canada ACR's come as Restricted rifles) it will need to be altered to be NR. This is done by way adding a longer barrel along with the rifle being verified/re-registered as NR. Unless of course you can find a used ACR that has already had this work completed.

I wouldn't say the XCR is superior to the Tavor regarding accuracy, because from what many owners state for their XCR's accuracy it depends on the particular XCR you buy as to it's accuracy capabilities. If the re-barrel is done well, I would expect the ACR to have the best accuracy of the three rifles you've listed.

The RFB has it's quirks but it's a fine rifle, better trigger than any of the rifles you have expressed interest in and at least as accurate as any of them too...

Of course buying Federal Gold Medal Match ammo is a huge deterrent if you want to see lots of 1.5" groups tho... And don't get me started on putting a bipod on one without throwing everything out of wack...


The XCR in 7.62x39 is actually a pretty good option, decent hunting caliber out to 150'ish meters and lots of cheap ammo available still as well as soft points and SST... They are HEAVY... But I have yet to try a keymod so my only experiance is not 100% relevant...


The T97 with a FTU pre installed are available in the $1200 ballpark, the trigger is crap but the rifle is about as simple as a hammer and pretty accurate for what it is...
 
NR, black rifle...
First choice goes to a keymod XCR-l.
i used to own a cz858, absolutely loved it. But i hated cleaning the corrosive salts after shooting the cheap bulk, no such thing as going for a quick shooting session after you add an extra 30min striping, cleaning and re-oiling the rifle.
Reloading for it is also a pain to find steady supplies for as 7.62x39 is just so cheap to shoot corrosive ammo.

Sooner or later you'll find yourself into the world of AR's if you have a restricted license and are apart of a gun club. (i did.... my first black rifle was a DDm4 v11 :)
So don't go 'cheap' and buy exactly what you want, Or else you'll just end buying another... and another....

if you fancy the premium NR black rifles (you basically pay for the fact its NR, not because its better than anything else that is restricted and cheaper)
then save your pennies and buy it.
