What does the CGN community suggest to someone who has $750ish to spend on a .357mag revolver? Not fussy about if it is blued or stainless. Don't care if it has a 4.2" or a 6" or an 8" barrel. What are your opinions on a NEW IN BOX revolver?? (I know a guy with a Llama that is new, unfired, with box for sale, that's why I included it in the list)

Good evening to you sir, hopefully this finds you well.

So seeing as that you're perhaps not within easy reach of a smith in the event your budget revolver malfunctions, I'll put in another vote for Ruger.

This one is the grand daddy of the GP100 line and I've lost count of the number of rounds downrange it's sent.

Truly it's been reliable as a ball peen hammer.

Anyway I'd buy a GP100 tomorrow and never look back were I in your shoes. Good luck on your search whichever way you decide.

Alpha proj revolvers are getting rave reviews around here all the time. The 9mm in particular seems very popular. I've been thinking about getting one for a while(in 357), i just can't stop finding other things i need more...

Ruger. It's solid

If a used gun then a Smith 586/686

I have the above and I can think of no compelling reason to stray into any other brands

For the bucks, the Ruger will serve you very well.I love my GP100 SS 6"bbl ,nice feel in my hands and very solidly built.
Price would be closer to $800 although ,but worth it(a bit less at JoBrook)

I also have a S&W 586 blued in 6" ,very nice revolver in the $930 area ,but have yet to shoot it ,still waiting for the reg.card :(
Trigger is pretty heavy in DA though ,much more than my Taurus .44mag and a bit more than my GP100.

I also have an Alfa in 9mm with the full cylinder and 4.5" bbl. A very nice revolver and no problems whatsoever ,very well built and great solid lockup.I have not heard anybody here on CGN who has bought or reviewed the AP in .357 mag.

Would be nice to see how it compares with the others, considering it`s price point.

I don't know what Smith and Wesson prices are like right now, but you might be able to get one for not much more than $750. I paid $800 for my 586 from a local store 2 years ago, brand new and not on sale. I have no experience with any of the guns in your list, so I can't comment on any of them.

I hadn't thought of single actions, but my vote would still be for Ruger. Blackhawk in particular. Adjustable sights are a must for me, unless I want a Wild West replica, in which case I don't buy Ruger anyway (Uberti is king for replicas).

That's one revolver you can buy used with confidence as well. There isn't much to bugger up on a Blackhawk.

not sure why you are hung up on new, because you should be able to find an excellent condition S&W 586/686 at your price which should be top of the list, but if it has to be new - Ruger GP100

GP100. I speak from experience. Two weeks ago a member @ my club let me shoot his. Before that day, I never shot a revolver before, yet it's so accurate @ 7 meters with DA. Excellent revolver.
To me personally, if buget allows, S&W R8, TRR8 and 627 PC are excellent with 8-round capacity. To fit your bill though, Ruger is 2nd to none.
