I was bored at work so i decided to make a QD mount.

So then I figured I would brag about it on the interweb ;)

I just need to get it phosphated now.

It's 1020 steel. Actual machine time is about 5 minutes total, but i had to design it, program it, and set the machine up and find the material, and go to the bathroom. So maybe 3 or 4 hours for 4 parts. If I was banging out 100 I could definitely cut that time down lol.

The crappy think i found out was that i designed it to fit my 1st gen moe magpul handguard, and i made an extra for my buddy and he has a newer gen moe handguard.......the slots are a different length :(

I'm sure there's others with the 1st gen handguard that would be happy to make a deal for that professional looking piece, nicely done btw.

Cheers D

To clarify why the slot length is an issue: they have lugs on the back that fit the slots. The screws will fit in the new slots but i have to mill the lugs off. Not a big deal i guess, afaik the magpul version doesnt have lugs.

These are higher profile than the magpul as well. The magpul come with a cutter that you use to drill a hole in your handguard.

And "MALICE TACTICAL" is born! ;)
for chist sake please don't use tactical if you start a company....

yer nice work, may want to not use 1020 kinda crapy steel, use alum and anozide, much harder and you can machine it
if u use steel use 4041 much nicer to work with and cost effective to get a really quality coating on it, let me know if you need it coated.

You selling any of these MALICE?.

I hadn't really any plans to sell them. Even if I did, I'd owe my boss the $$. His machines and material......
Plus I think CGN would want their cut if I tried to sell them here.

Thanks. :)
While I agree 1020 CRS isn't exactly ordnance grade steel, I'm not sure how you figure aluminum is harder. Unless you're talking about the surface hardness of the anodizing ? But even at that, aluminum would be strong enough.

4140 is probably a little overkill for a QD mount. I could have used Gr5 titanium or 718 Inconel but my boss probably would have had a heart attack ;)

I figure the polymer handguard or the mounting screws would probably fail before the steel did.

I've parkerized both 4140 and 1020 and I found the colour/finish variance wasn't really noticeable.

"M Alice Aesthetics" <<----No one would suspect a thing ;)
