Seems they will be retiring their current issued Walther P99 in QA (quick action) after 13 years of service in favor of the Glock 19 (Gen 4).
Given how some people have a harder time shooting Glocks due to the grip angle, I don't know if this is a good or bad thing necessarily.
And no, they will not have the barrel with the threads in order to make it FA legal. They will in essence be carrying a prohib, but they're exempt from the FA in any case.
The article says that the current 4,900 Walthers need to be overhauled (5 internal parts per pistol to be replaced) as well as having their sights replaced (which contains a radioactive element. I assume they mean Tritium). The process would be completed by 2017 and only last for 5 years until they would replace the Walthers in 2022. Or, probably for the same cost, they could just get the Glocks now. Deliveries start this year and the whole force should be on the G19s in 18 months.
