hi all, been reloading a couple years now & i got in the habit of keeping a bucket under the press when depriming to catch them & ease cleanup, well after my last session i noticed i've got a fair bit, guessing 5-10lbs worth lol, my question is, is there anything productive i can do with them? thanks in advance

load up some 12ga rounds full of spent primers

load the small pistol/rifle ones into a .177 cal pellet gun

take them into your local scrap yard for some monies or lead for casting.

Call me crazy but I keep all mine they take up no room to store them. But I keep them for fear because, great Canadians could vote for the DEVIL named Trudeau. one day he might decide to ban reloading or some BULL****. Unlikely but you never know. But you can make mercury fulminate at home, or other pressure sensitive materials to make primer compound, but with out a crazy press it would be hard to make the anvils. I trust our government to make smart decision because their track record is great so far ha. You never know what stupid thing the government learn from tv or movie. I have seen people reload on Sons of Anarchy example. I mean that's why silencers are ban, because James Bond off people.

So you would make new primers from them?

You could sew them into some canvas bags for bench-resting.

it can be done, painstakingly lol. i've reloaded primers with strike anywhere matches for a larf, but they are corrosive. i used strike anywhere part for the primer then used the rest of the match as gun powder with some 38spl loads. i got the idea from the ammo channel. http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php/1113109-38-Special-quot-Match-quot-load-%29

You have a lot of patience to reload primers, I think that would be an absolute last resort for me to resort to.

Think I'll just stock up on primers and shoot less if it comes to that..

You can't melt them down unless you have a forge it something similar. I think he means get money for the scrap value and then buy lead or trade for lead.

There was an article in a, now defunct, magazine on how to use strike anywhere matches to make primers about 30 or so years ago.

Yah I mean I really hope it never comes to that and there is very little chance, but you never know. So I hope I am just keeping a pile of trash for someone to one day call me a pack rat when I am dead. I don't reload primers, I have tried match stick way, it iffy works sometimes, but making small batches of mercury fulminate is do able. Yes its corrosive, but just like surplus shells a good cleaning and your good to go. But while there is amply primer supply, NOT A CHANCE do I waste my time. 15yrs ago, I remember trying to buy 12lb of powder and the guy asked me why so much, I said why not do you know if its going to be there tomorrow, it was but look at today how many want adds are on the net.
