Remington 7600, why the negatives?

I bought a brand new 7600 .30-06 carbine back in '88 to celebrate my new girlfriend and a new hunting area in the Gatineau hills of Quebec (hey we all need an excuse). First weekend in the bush with it and out walks a young 4X4 whitetail at about 40 yards. First shot was likely fatal, but as he kept staggering around I kept pumpin' 'em through until I was empty and he dropped. All took probably 5 seconds. Needless to say I was thrilled! I took several more deer with that rifle including a big 5X4 144 5/8" B&C at less than 20'. Though it's been years since I carried that 7600 I still own it and am happily married to the same lovely woman.
Cheers

I've had a 7600 for years ... mine's a rifle in 35 Whelen. Topped it originally with a Weaver V3 in a pivot mount and upgraded a few years back
to a Leupold VXII 1-4 in X-low Quick Release mounts. Nice trigger job to 3-1/2 lbs. It wears a Pachmayr Old English Decelerator pad and the typical
Michael's barrel band-type detachable swivel set & sling. It has very nicely accounted for several deer & moose. Loves hand loads of RL-15 and Hornady
round noses. 200 gr. for deer, 250's for moose. Long live the " Mennonite Machine Gun " !

We have been shooting a 243 7600 since the early 80's without an issue. It will put 5 shots , 95 gr partitions in a group a 25 cent coin will cover. at 100 yards with a 4x bushnell Scopechief wide angle scope.
It still looks like new, has a great finish,on great walnut and deep luster blue and has never failed in any weather , even at -40.
Whats not to like? I wish I had one in 270, 30-06 , or 7mm08.
Nice shooting, that.

Mennonite machine gun... lmao

It was more for the uniqueness a .338-06 would possess plus IMHO there are better rifle bullets available in .338 compared to .357.
There's enough good 35cal bullets out there to keep a shooter happy. I've never wanted for more selection. I have some 250gr Speers & Hornadys, 200gr Hornadys and 200gr TTSX. I'm pretty much set for anything with just four bullets in my 358Win.

The only negatives of 7600 is why cant Remington put a decent recoil pad, sling studs and trigger on them
You're right!

The worst part of the 760 7600 series is the trigger. They aren't sks level, but generally worse than bolt action hunting rifles. However, guntech on this forum does trigger jobs on them for a reasonable cost. . Just send the trigger group etc. They are generally regarded as very accurate fast shooting hunting guns that cycle as fast as a semi auto without any jamming issues.
If you get a good one and most are, there is no better hunting rifle for the bush. My 20 inch, 308 7600 is my first choice every year for deer hunting.

Nothing wrong with 740,742, 760's !!!! Mostly the shooter. I've had a bunch of them, (7) and only 1 was a lemon. Anyone of them would shoot a "loonie" at 100 yards, after some bullet workup. I've had a 308 that shoots a "quarter" all day.

Looking for the gunshop, Couldn't find it except in the Phillipines...."Guntech"....Do you have a link?

THX

7600s are pump guns, just like the 870. Trigger schmigger, they're designed correctly for their intended use. If you want to shoot off a rest, at 300 yards, use a bolt gun......................frikkin maroons, some of ya.

For those complaining about the trigger...just instal a Timney 870 trigger kit into your 760/7600 and it cleans it up real nice! I've also installed an over travel screw thru the rear of the trigger guard on one of my 30-06s. The 35 Whelen rifle and carbine will get the same treatment shortly!

760's and 7600's can be unbelievably accurate. Free floated barrels. I have a Weathermaster in .30-06 and a walnut .243. I have shot deer at over 300 yards with both. From the bench, the .243 will tear a ragged one hole, 5 shot group. I hate the feel of both guns. I just carry a bolt better. But for a hunting rifle - meat and potatoes type of rig, hard to beat them.

Looks like there is a large enough group of pump loves here.
Why not get together and get the Remington Custom Shop to do a limited run "CGN" custom 7600s.
Specify all the upgrades you want to see
Decent recoil pad, nice wood with cut checkering. For those of us that are not 100% FUDD, perhaps stainless steel.
I'd be in for one if the price wasn't outrageous. There are a number of site sponsors that would jump at the opportunity to put this together in order to get a sizable pre order.

No pump gun will cycle as fast as gas operated.

The pump is faster for two reasons, the first and most obvious is that by the time the Remington gas gun's jam is cleared, the magazine of the pump gun is already empty. The second reason is the pump guy doesn't have to wait for the gas to cycle his action. In reality, by the time you've acquired your second target, or reacquired your first, either action will have cycled quickly enough to allow you to fire without delay. The primary advantage either a pump of semi-auto has over a bolt gun is that neither the firing grip or the cheek weld needs to be broken, while the action cycles. Like the traditional lever actions, the 760/7600 has a slim profile making it a pleasure to carry for long periods of time.

I'M IN!
BTW there is a 760/7600 picture thread on here somewhere too. Lots of pump lovers there. Lets do the custom CGN run!

Funny thread.

before we moved from Europe i was looking for a simple rifle with synthetic stock and magazine system ... the gunsmith i knew very well went with a carbine 35 whelen remington pump action synthetic stock (model made for the French market originally) as a fool i was on the no pump action for the public mood, the authorities turned us off. i used 870 during my army time but after some robberies in France the right was removed to own pump action shotgun, again as a fool i didnt take that rifle.

now i wish they re making them ...

the pump action shotgun has been given back to French people but only with rifled barrel. rifle pump action are still legal ...
