Hey guys, I got an opportunity to get a 1967 Marlin 336 in 30-30. I've been getting back into lever guns lately and just want to know if the price is right!

Any thoughts?

Be sooooo wary of whether it has a barrel band or end cap.
The end cap ones are of lesser value.
Then again, the newbies don't seem to know and dive right in.
Tree brown wons is a decent deal regardless of either version.

Why would an end cap 336 be not as good? Unless you are talking about a 30A or Glenfield? There are some really nice end caps models out there!

Yeah, but the 30as wood still looks amazing compared to the new 336w laminate, aka: M870 express factory rejects.

I have had the end cap version and the barrel band version. I could see absolutely no difference in accuracy at all. Both definitely shot circles around the Winchester 94 I had at the time too.

There is some truth to the end cap vs barrel band accuracy debate.
The better accuracy from an end cap model applies to the end cap mag stud versions, when compared to a carbine barrel band with full mag model. It has to do with pressure points and barrel harmonics. There are so many other variables at play though that an equal comparison would be hard to make.

For me, any end cap mag stud version Marlin with Ballard rifling has always been more accurate than any other variant, Regardless of calibre.
