This .22LR shortage is starting to piss me off.

No Bulk .22 in Victoria for the longest time. And Still all the shelves are bare.
When i see it I buy it... lol...

***envious*** (been there many times, lived in BC for about 7 years) If I could afford to live there, the cost of just living there should equal 'zero fawks' given about ammo prices!

side note: for $117 shipped, 1050 rounds of bulk federal, and 400 rounds of CCI sub's were just sitting on my deck when I got home.. I though someone would have to sign for them? (Cabela's free shipping weekend sale)

UPS left my 2 Boxes of M22 and 2 boxes of Federal on the porch... lol...

But I live in Military housing, I cant afford to live downtown... lol... even at 40$ for a Brick, its still the cheapest part of my range day. Guns + Gas + food costs way more for the day and no one complains about that...

People need to complain I guess....

Decently priced and were there limits on how many boxes per customer?

I thought the price at Wolverine Guns & Tackle in Red Deer was a little high - sorry memory is playing tricks on me, can't recall exactly what a case was selling for, but I think it was around 9 cents a round. They had cases of 10 bricks of 222 rounds and 10 bricks of 333 rounds for sale so no limits that I could see. Their phone is here ...

Why are people expressing the price of 22 ammo as ¢@rnd? Is that an attempt at sugar coating the ridiculous price they are paying? The reality is 9¢ is $4.50@box. Double what it should be for garden variety 22lr. Do you buy cheerios at .0023¢@cheerio?:d

Depends on the last day you ate ........ :)

as has been said, hoarding is causing the shelves to be empty. WalMart in AZ brings to the floor about 20k rd at opening. The same people wait at the doorway and buy them all. They then jack the price and sell them online. If the panic buyers would quit paying 2x for these, the problem would go away. Cal Ranch in Casa Grande had a pallet one afternoon, gone the next morning. 5 bx per customer. Wife got 5 for her revolver. There are millions of 22lr in closets and garages all over.

Because those of us who made money as a teenager by shooting gophers had to deduct the cost of ammo from the price paid per tail.

And because Winchester in their wisdom now sell bulk 22 ammo in boxes with odd numbers of rounds, NOT bricks of 500.

Meh. I am not shooting less .22lr, if anything I am shooting more due to personal circumstances. I built my stash up to a cut off level and quit buying long before any "shortage" and I am still part of the current problem according to some.

My discretionary income that I put toward ammo has been buying x39 and x54r as of late, why? because there has been some of the cheapest prices on those rounds I have seen in a while. Buy it cheap and stack it deep.

Using that same money I could have recently bought Federal 525 packs at around 28.00 a box all in. I also could have turned around and sold them for an easy 40.00 a box. We live in a free country right? Capitalism at it's best, but there are people out there that I could profit from. But I don't. So for all the moaners and groaners out there consider that before you complain about us hoarders ;)

Agreed. Although manufacturers have bumped up production, I think they are afraid of over producing. What will happen as these hoarders/preppers die off or decide to sell, this stuff ends up on the secondary market and floods the market. We see some of that right now at the gun shows. Some of these venders have huge stockpiles available, but there again they wont sell it cheap as long as the market bears more.

I think the "hoarding" for the sake of "hoarding" excuse is losing its validity over time. The effects of Sandyhook and threat of legislation in the US has passed. Want proof? Look at the glut of AR's on the market today. You couldn't buy one for a reasonable price for close to a year after Sandyhook. Now? Their practically giving them away compared to what we were paying before.

I think there's perhaps some hoarding but I'm willing to believe the real reason for shortages in rimfire ammo is a large increase in its use due to the soaring cost of centerfire ammunition. People are simply looking for a lower cost alternative for their recreational pursuits. Naturally, the demand will be much higher as a result. With manufacturers either slow, unwilling, or reluctant to increase production, shortages will be inevitable.

Edit: Hypothetical Situation...

Ammo hoarder dies with 3 skids of ammo in storage, including 1 skid of .22LR, 1 skid of mix and match milsurp ammo, and 1 skid of mix and match centrefire non-surplus ammo...
Surviving family members want to get rid of the stuff - phone the police to come and get it for destruction.
Nobody shoots a single round of it.
Waste.

Believe it or not, theres plenty of people who would actually do that.......I'm sure the boys would be more than happy to "destroy" it ;)
