What are the Rail Specifications on the SAM pistols?

Hi Guys, I recently bought a used Tactical Commander and when I tried a quick detachable light that fits my glock perfectly it was quite a bit too big and extremely loose to the point of being unusable. The same light will not fit on the latest generation Grand Power rail because it is too tight.

It would appear that between Glock, Grand Power and SAM there are at least 3 different sizes in my safe.

Too bad the manufacturers can't agree on a common size.

Can anyone from Wolverine comment on the different sizes in the industry and what size the SAM factory uses?

Thanks.

I will raise this question with SAM. I just tried a Stream light on a SAM Thunderbolt rail and it is very tight but could be modified very slightly to fit easily. When I compare the Badger rail to the SAM rail the SAM rail appears to be slightly deeper. I have to agree it would be good if all manufactures kept to the STANAG dimensions.

Glock doesn't use a picatinny rail, it is called the Glock Universal rail slot and it is slightly narrower. When the 21SF was first released they could be had with a picatinny rail but now all Glocks have the GUR.

My Glock 29 is pre SF so maybe it has a picatinny sized rail?
The quick detach light/laser (NC star) is supposed to fit "picatinny/weaver" according to their specs. It fits perfectly on a glock 29 rail but is too tight for what ever standard Grand Power is currently using and way to loose on the SAM tactical rail. I've tried it on some other rails where it fits but has a bit of play but no where near as loose as the SAM.

As far as I am aware only the 21SF (and only some) came with the picatinny. Most Glocks are the universal glock rail.

Upon closer inspection I believe SAM is trying to do a picatinny cut but they missed the mark on mine.
I think mine must have been made on a monday because not only is the rail cut not done well but the right side safety is also bent out of shape and shows no signs of damage to the finish or the grips that one would expect if the damage was done after it left the factory.

Kind of a bummer about the out of spec rail as I bought the gun with the intention of using a laser and light.

Another suggestion for SAM (along with the obvious issue of quality control) would be to start the cross cuts underneath the rail closer to the end of the dust cover to give more options with quick detach mounts. I can't see the last slot near the rounded part of the trigger guard ever being used but with the quick detach set up that I have it would need a slot just in from the end of the dust cover to work.

Bummer. It looks like your rail is definitely not cut straight. It's off to one side a fair bit.

I have to go look at mine now!

But remember that I did fit a Streamlight TLR-4 to mine without issue. But I could not get my Viridian C5L to fit in a position where I could activate it with my shooting hand.

Where did it need the cross slot to be to work with your Viridian? If it was just a matter of filling in a slot where I needed it I'd be OK but it's so far out of spec that I doubt anything will fit on there that is designed to be quick attachable and even a clamp down style mount will not sit like it should.

I couldn't get the Viridian far back enough to reach the button with my finger. At max extension of my finger, I am almost lined up with a slot. I could file it back a ways. But it's simpler to just use my other laser.

Ok. I'll be honest. I like the gun and I am chicken to take a file to the frame.

Same as when I did a bobtail conversion a while back.

Well like I said, I believe SAM was trying for Picatinny standard but fell short on this example. I'm guessing maybe the thumb safety was a heat treating issue as it's hard to imagine how it could be bent without being damaged?

Easy enough to try and bend back the safety a bit or replace it but the rail dimensions are beyond my skill to repair.

I bought it used from another CGN member Craig, and unfortunatley they never noticed the bent safety or the out of spec rail.
It took me a couple days to notice the safety which in hind sight surprised me and I can easily see where if a guy didn't try to attach something to the rail he would not notice the out of spec dimensions.
