Was just having lunch with a couple of my friends and we were talking guns, explaining the whole magazine legalities until one of my friends points out that if lar mags exist, why not a beowulf pistol mag? I was told (probly wrong) that there are only two beowulf ar 15's in canada and if by chance the RCMP decide that there can be 10 round beowulf pistol mag (which would happen to hold 30 223 rounds). Just my thoughts

Do you have a 50 Beowulf pistol? If not do you know anyone that does. Without the pistol kinda hard to get a pistol mag.

What are you talking about? They've been around for 3 years at least:

But, that's not a pistol available direct from a manufacturer. That's one guy in the states. Currently Alexander Arms doesn't seem interested in producing their own pistols, so you'd need some other manufacturer to take up the cause.

That would be the ultimate work-around to our ridiculous, criminal mag-cap laws! Not sure if they would risk the heat it would bring....unless they had the full support of Canada's unified gun lobby.

..so, not likely :)

I would buy one to help out the community, . Im surprised one isnt in works for the Canadian market yet,, would be a huge cash cow for the mags,. I mean clips ah ah ah

Considering how long it's been around, you would think this has been discussed already. Wonder if "we" could organize some sort of lobby effort; like how the LA Beast is trying to bring back crystal pepsi.

Too bad they aren't available...that really socks!

another part of the pistol mag debate from what i understand is for a gun (in canada) to be considered a pistol is has to be designed to be fired/capable of being fired with one hand and not shouldered as a rifle. again, grasping at straws trying to remember, but i think this was part of the debate around the importation of a VZ 58 pistol with all the idiots were up in arms that it should be allowed in canada as a pistol because they the evil commie baby eater could have 10 rounds rather than the standard 5 because you know...if a killer is going to go on a rampage and shoot a bunch of people, is is going to be concerned about the extra 5 years he will get for drilling out that little rivet in his perfectly legal 5/30 magazine. because that extra 5 years would be a terrible thing on top of his 3 lifetime sentences

this is the idiot i was trying to remember the quote from...right, wrong or otherwise i don't know.

Retired Ontario Provincial Police Staff Sergeant Doug Carlson, who ran northwestern Ontario’s gun control system for six years before his retirement, says it would be “ridiculous” for the RCMP to classify the VZ58 a legal handgun.

To be classified as a handgun in Canada, a firearm must be “designed, altered or intended to be aimed and fired by the action of one hand.”

“Having carried various handguns for over 35 years as a police officer, when one considers just the length itself it would be ridiculous to believe this model was created to be fired by one hand,” he said.

“When one considers it uses rifle ammunition, it makes no sense whatsoever. I use the same calibre in a rifle to hunt moose each year and cannot imagine using one hand to fire the weapon.”

somehow I'm going to have to call BS on the fact that he hunts a moose with the same cartridge every year...possible to do, sure. realistic or a great idea...not really.

from what i understand the collector lost his 10 round mag as it was deemed "prohibited" but was allowed to keep his not a handgun, handgun -read it in another article-

This is from the Criminal Code of Canada

Part 4
Prohibited Devices

3.#(1)#Any cartridge magazine
(a)#that is capable of containing more than five cartridges of the type for which the magazine was originally designed and that is designed or manufactured for use in
(i)#a semi-automatic handgun that is not commonly available in Canada,

Define "commonly available". The legal definition please.

Anybody? ;)

From the article posted earlier:

"For the loophole to apply, the handgun must be “commonly available”. Since only one VZ58 pistol is known to be privately owned in the whole country, and Osborne had to go to some trouble to import it, it would seem not to meet that standard. However, the RCMP interprets “commonly available” as covering “firearms that are mass produced and, therefore, are not rare, one of a kind, or limited in availability,” Sgt. Greg Cox explained in an e-mail. "

again it's an interpretation, not a legal term...would ultimately be up to a court if somebody wanted to push the issue...though it appears the RCMP interpretation is actually favourable

Wow I knew There had to be more than two beowulf rifles and pistols in canada. The Pistol mags IMO would be pretty sweet since running a ar 180b with five rounds is kinda tedious and annoying, plus trying to dig out lar mags out of mag pouches. BTW Noice tv Press pass, looks wicked fun!

why not just change an already legal pistol to 50 beowulf and make mags for it.

The XCR comes to mind or any of the other pistols "commonly" available built on similar platforms.

oing to be concerned about the extra 5 years he will get for drilling out that little rivet in his perfectly legal 5/30 magazine. because that extra 5 years -

It's not even an 'extra' 5 years in prison. Canadian charges don't stack like the states. What ever the worst crime committed is that's the max years in prison. So for murder it's 25 years that's all they would get. Doesn't matter what other crimes they commit.
