Hey guys,

Just bought a Ruger SR22 a few weeks back and shot it today for the first time. Zeroed the rifle at 50 meters using the factory mag and once that was done, I decided to give the butler creeks a try.

Man did they run like crap! I bought the clear ones (painted them black except for the side of the magazine "pmag window style") with metal feed lips. They would hardly feed. Also caused extraction issues. Only after going through about half the mag did they start to run smooth, but the first 10-15 rounds were nothing but problems. I was shooting a mix of remington, american eagle, Aguilia, and Winchester white box. All were 50 round boxes, no bulk stuff.

Is this common with butler creek steel lips mags? Do they need to be broken in? Thanks
 
I purchased 2 Butler Creek 25/22 mags recently and one works the other doesn't. One feeds properly and the other doesn't no matter how many rounds are in the mag. Ammunition types also have no effect on the feeding problem. So I just sent it back to Butler Creek, hoping for a new replacement when in the mail in the days to come.

Years ago I had around 10 of their magazines with another 10/22 I had. Never had any issues with them except with Remington Viper ammunition. Had a Ramline 30round magazine that was weak but still fed better than the Butler Creek magazine I returned.
 
and to clarify, the 10 round BC I have is great! but its the 25 rounders that give me issues. the mag jams and the rounds don't pop up enough for the bolt to catch. usually have most issues when its fully loaded and the first 15 rounds.
 
I have two and they both work very well. 1000's of rounds each. The only thing ive done
to them is left them full for a week or so, I read somewhere this helps. They'll feed anything
but Winchester 222, put a whole box of 555 thru them yesterday with no issues, I thought it
was the same ammo.... maybe I had a bad box.
 
I put some carbon graphite in that little sqare opening at the bottom of the mag. Carbon graphite was bought at can tire. My butler creek mags are more reliable than the factory ruger mags now
 
yes they do have feed problems. ....If it's not oem it's garbage. ....I use Butler Creek mags as targets

I bought two of the butler creek magazines (steel lips) and have had zero feed issues on my 10/22. I've heard negative reviews of the hot lips model.
 
I think they are hit and miss. I have a clear one, works fine, never had feed issues. I also have a smokey black one where I get the odd failure to feed... I did however do some filing to one of the corners on each mag.
 
I was excited about getting 3 of the Promags for my 10/22 Magnum. I wish I could tell you how they functioned, but I was unable to get more than 8 rounds in them before they started to stack funny and get all jammed up. I smashed one just so I could get the rounds out of it. Most epic POS ever, I was so excited to actually have some increased round count for my 10/22M as it is stupid accurate.


Butler Creek run perfect in my fleet of .22 LR 10/22's!
 
I have a few and dopped a little bit of graphite into each mag. I also leave them loaded most of the time. After a couple of range trips, they all work great now. Also, try different .22 ammo in the SR-22. I found it needs a somewhat hotter round to cycle reliably.
 
Your Sr22 will run better with more rounds through it.Both my sons and mine improved dramatically after the gun was broken in.My sons even runs the Battledyne mags now flawlessly.Before it was jam city unless the stock 10 rounders were used.Give it time.I have 30 year old BC mags that still run good thru my Sporter 1022.
