Went to my local gun shop today to purchase from skeet supplies and reloading supplies, a new shipment of Mosins was in and my friend at the shop showed me this beautiful condition 1938 Mosin 91/30. I walked out of the shop with everything I came to buy but the Mosin was still on my mind..... put my supplies in my trunk and walked back into the store and purchased the Mosin.

Now I am part of the Mosin community, and by the sounds of it you can't just have one!
My SVT-40 will be happy to have a Russian brother in the family.

The 91/30 is a gateway gun. Now you need a carbine (so handy you'll want one of each the m38 and m44!), a 91 because they have even more history, and one of the Finnish models if you want to do some serious shooting. I'm not sure why these things get so much crap, even those I've picked up with poor triggers and not-so-smooth bolts take a bit of breaking in, and rarely a bit of work, and they turn out pretty good.

Now buy an sks and it shall be semi complete, only thing left is an AK (good luck)

Alert !!! Danger !!!

Do Not Put your Mosin in the same gun safe as your STV-40 ,,, if you put them together ,, one day when you open that gun safe door it will be full of SKS's , more STV-40's and Mosin's of all different sizes .

These guys are right - my grandfather gave me his 1904 M91 Cossack and the more I learned about it the more I've been enamoured by Russian firearms and their simplicity. From there it was the SKS, then two SVT-40's, then the 91/30. Having loads of fun on the cheap with surplus ammo. Yes, they reproduce if you're not careful but I keep telling the Chief Financial Officer (aka wonderful wife who also loves shooting) that it's cheaper than drugs or booze . . . :p

This is a REAL phenomenon! In my case I bought 2 SKS', 3 Mosins, and they breed and made an SVT40! Just one SVT40 for now...

I'm sorry to hear that.

yup yup started sks, a few months went by, it told me it felt lonely, so i got a mosin. I guess some hanky panky went on and the Stork from Corwin delivered me an Svt40 hahahaha....was my wedding anniversary just past this weekend 5 years. My wife agreed to take in another nice SKS, its on the way!!!!! They do breed like crazy hahahaa cheers guys

For me I got an SVT first because of the famous Lever Arms xmas bonanza when they went on sale for $200 - I wish I'd had more money at the time, I should have bought 10, and I could have financed a few other things with the profits.

But anyway...

Then I got a 91/30 to have a decently accurate bolt action to go along with the semi auto.

The an M44 followed me home from a gun show. It was lonely and looking for a friend, and I'm a kind hearted fella when it comes to lonely guns. Always willing to take one in.

Then an M38, because I liked how handy the short M44 was, I figured an M38 would be a great little bush gun - lighter and a bit less front heavy without the bayo.

Now I'm angling with one of the importers to get dibs on a true surplus PU sniper that's working it's way through the paperwork export process in its country of origin. With luck, it should be in Canada sometime between late June and mid August...

But no, I don't have a Mosin problem.

Although if anyone has a spare M38, I might know of a good home for it, where it could hang out with some of its old comrades from back in the day.

They are addictive, I'm almost done, just looking for a M38 & M44 to be complete. My favorite Mosin is the PU sniper, and then my SKS.
