I left a message with Julien at Downrange. One of the guys that hasn't gotten back to me. Andrew at Insite will probably get my business, called and didn't get an answer but he called me back in less then ten minutes and was very helpful! Customer service goes a long ways in my books

When did you call him? I was just at his place for the last week, he is very busy and doesn't work weekends, also he had to take his daughter to the hospital in the city. So before you start spouting off about customer service maybe give him some time to respond. And get the full story.

I concur, he is quick to answer emails, texts and phone calls.

This is sound advice if one is a fullbore or F-class shooter.
However, his attitude and treatment of shooters outside of those limited disciplines is incredibly poor.
I personally would not p!ss on him if he was on fire.:kickInTheNuts:

Caveat emptor

Henry does not suffer fools gladly.

In my experience he has been nothing short of terrific to deal with and has always delivered in a timely manner and for a fair price.

If you're an idiot, the experience may end up similar to yours....

Hah well said Macro. Henry is great to deal with.

Sometimes part of good service also involves actually staying in the shop for a few hours and getting work done uninterrupted.

My experience mirrors 70 or so others as a former member of the APRA, and likely countless more that that have dealt with him in similar fashion.
So my point is, if you as a customer don't mind dealing with those involved in double dealing, back-stabbing political BS to have a shooting discipline(s) removed from a range then he's your man.

You're obviously of an ilk that supports that type of behaviour, or you're just another F-class shooter willing to blindly circle the wagons around one of your own....
I'm guessing the later.

Look at it this way, the Smiths that are in demand are very busy. Some of them do gunsmithing on the side and are a one or two man operation.

The time they spend immediately returning E-Mails/Phone calls to impatient people is time away from doing actual work on customer's guns........and those same people who expect someone to drop everything and immediately return their E-mail/calls are the ones who will ##### about why it is taking so long to get their gun back........ ;)

I am not an F class shooter or a bench rest shooter and have used his services 3 times and not once have I found him hard to deal with. Every time my rifles have been returned within 2 or 3 weeks. I am also extremely pleased with his work. The man knows how to make a rifle shoot.

I wasn't spouting off about anything, merely stating that I didn't get a response. That was more than a week ago.. I understand that being on the phone and computer detracts from work but as someone that runs a business, avoiding these things doesn't help to grow a business.

Anyways, business ethics aside, there are plenty of great machinists around the country now and I'll choose one who wants my business.

I did not start this thread to bash other professionals, I'm looking for someone taking on new work and can fully understand someone not interested in taking on new customers.

It sounds like you(and 70 or so others) have personal issues and not related to his work as gunsmith. OP asked about good gunsmith that has turn around time of a month or so and Henry is a great smith, very reasonable price and turn around times of two to three weeks.
I haven't started shooting F class, I met him at new shooters day. The guy was incredibly helpful during the day, I didn't even know he was gunsmith till end of the day. Since then he has worked on 3 of my guns with phenomenal results and surprisingly short turn around. He never once made me feel like an idiot, I'm new to long range stuff, I ask lot of questions and he answers anything and everything very nicely. I don't even know what else can you expect from somebody?
Sorry I don't wanna offend anyone here but Beltfed, it sounds like you and your friends don't like Henry because of some other(possibly personal) issues and it has nothing to do with his work.
As neutral as I can be OP, I assure you Henry's work is second to none, he does not pick and choose customers.
Finally, an open offer to OP, if you are disappointed by his work(as suggested by some) I'll pay Henry's fee for you. How's that for a guarantee???
