Hey all, I have a kimber target rimfire and having issues with cycling. I fire one shot and either partial cycle or it wont. but i have to rack the slide every time to eject and chamber the next round. pistols pretty much brand new. using federal 36gr.

just to be clear, it's not a conversion?

it may not like federal, but if it's as new as you say i suspect it's still needing a break in. grab a bunch of different brands and see what the gun likes. when your at home rack the slide while watching tv.

Since you mentioned Pistol is new, did you remove/clean the factory lube? Sometimes, these types of lubes are the culprit. A good gun oil is a way to start. Also, a hotter ammo might be the solution. Start with t box of CCI Mini Mags, them move to CCI Stinger if it does not cycle efficiently. Also check that your hand is not touching any part of slide and slide stop during firing. Magazine spring might also be a factor.

I'd strip it completely then lube it wet, generously like for a break in, no grease just gun oil.

Cycle it by hand at home, unloaded of course a couple thousand times, field strip, re-clean it, oil it up and go shoot it with the widest variety of ammo I could scrounge up.

As said above try CCI Minimags. If it doesn't function with those while clean and lubed, it probably won't function with any other ammo.

That their 1911? There's nothing wrong with it. You need to change ammo. Said ammo doesn't need to be high velocity or hypervelocity stuff either. .22's are just like that.
As with any .22, rifles included, you have to try a box of as many brands of ammo as you can to find the ones your pistol will both shoot well and cycle the action for a semi.
And lose the excess oil. It's not required. Grease, lightly, for mating parts and lightly oil the rest.

don't laugh too hard, but I had a similar problem with my kimber .22 and I realised it was just that, for me, the slightest pressure of my thumb on the slide would from time to time cause the slide not to cycle fully. I would usually end up with the case stripped and ejected, but the slide not going far enough back to grab a new one off the magazine.

as long as I make sure to change my grip a little bit (compared to shooting 9, 40, 45) and be certain my thumb is not touching the slide I am aces.

if you are certain you are not putting any pressure on the slide, I would look at your recoil spring.

Thanks folks, ill look in to different ammo.
i stripped it down before i shot it and i was checking to see where my thumb was when firing and i wasnt touching it.
Just to clarify it wasnt doin a full cycle, it would either half #### or not.

In accordance with the manual, you will remember it said that it works best with hyper velocity ammunition. Mine works flawlessly with CCI Stinger, less so with cheaper ammunition.

i know its not the same gun but i was having the same issue today with federal ammo with my p226 22 conversion, i found remington 22 thunderbolt and cyclone worked well in it. winchester was almost as bad as the federal but both got better after the gun was broken in but federal still only functioned 80% of the time

My Kimber 22LR conversion on my SR1911 cycles Federal 525 36gr bulk ammo just fine. That being said, I hand cycled it a couple thousand time (driving my wife nuts in the process) to loosen up the action. I have the black painted version and the paint ended up rubbing off in a couple spots which helped.

I have a Kimber Conversion on a Norinco frame. None of the cheap plastic Kimber mags work worth a darn.
They don't fully seat in the frame, so I use the ones from my GSG 1911-22. No more problems.

I would try a reduced power hammer spring (aka mainspring) . This has allowed my Advantage Arms kit to work with any of the ammo I have tried so far with no light strikes. Also, be sure to lube it generously.

The effort required to #### the hammer retards the rearward motion of the slide to a considerable extent.

I picked one up from the Cabela's gun library, and the first session out I realized why it was traded off. Multiple failures to cycle per magazine. The previous owner was running some type of white grease that when removed and lubed as per owners manual, the pistol worked just fine.

It also helps to feed it a steady diet of CCI mini mags.

If I'm recalling right, I believe all 22 conversion kits ask that you use 1200+f.p.s. in order to cycle properly. I've shot long rifle CBs ( damn crows) through mine but you have to manually cycle the gun.
