The Savage 110 BA seems like a steal at its price, even new. Ive handled one, the bolt is okay (seems a bit "loose'" if you will) and I like the look and feel, but thats only half the battle. I talked to a clerk at Cabelas about them. They seem quite popular but you know, thats a hefty commission he could get for a little bit of good talk.

So what do people think of them? Worth the money? Do they stack up well against other precision rifles? Any pros and cons to speak of? Would you call it a good entry into precision shooting? If so, think it will last, or will it become necessary to upgrade to something new? I know if I bought one, it would be for that purpose, and id go with .308, rather than more expensive rounds, so I can get profient without, you know, a bank loan for ammo.

Ive been shooting my 110 BA for getting close to 4 years I think. Mine is 300WM and its been great. I'm rebarreling mine to 338LM right now.

In my opinion the 10/110 BA's have 2 negatives.

First is the cost. I think the 110 BA's are selling for $2400-2700. I guess the 10's are a little cheaper but they are still the most expensive guns that Savage makes.

Second is the factory bedding system. It works ok but it is not great. The problem may not be as bad with the 10BA (less recoil then 300WM and338LM) but its still far from perfect.

Here's a link to my 110BA bedding thread. http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php/1086536-How-to-Bed-a-Savage-110BA-%28or-similar-chassis%29%28Lots-of-pics%29

If you want a cool looking gun that will shoot pretty good then the 10BA is perfect for you. If you are serious about learning about long range shooting and still want a tactical look then I would get a 12LRP or 10FCP. If your not worried about having a tactical looking gun I would have a look at the 12FTR. If you get any of the cheaper guns you'll have either more money for a scope or more money for ammo.

If your reloading I would have a look at a 12LRP in .260 rem.

I have a Savage 10BA in 308 and love it.

Shoots great, and if I don't pull a shot my groups are always touching at 100 yards. Once I receive my Cadex rifle I'll be taking them out to further distances and testing them out.

Definitely recommend a 10BA.

The Savage rifles are generally good value for your money, but I really believe there are better rifles out there for you. I would take a serious look at the Tikka T3 Varmint or the Remington 700 5R mil spec rifles. These rifles are better out of the box in my opinion, better stock on the Remington and one of the smoothest actions and nicest triggers on the Tikka you will find on any factory rifle anywhere. The Savage action is the opposite of smooth and the accu trigger is terrible in my experience, but thats just one guys experience.

I have a 110BA in 338LM and like it. With a decent scope t works well for me. With good loads it's a sub moa gun even with my crappy shooting skills. It's very heavy (over 15lbs iirc) which actually helps recoil mgmt. I got it used, so didn't pay the high new retail price, so it wasn't quite as painful money wise.

Having said that, if you're looking at .308, there's other rifles that won't cost as much, and are much more traditional in look and feel that you could get in .308. The Rem 5R milspec comes to mind as noted above. I have one in .223 and it is a great gun, very accurate. Th 5R in stock form with a bedding job is a pretty nice way to get into precision for reasonable dollars.

There are lots of other choices in .308 rifles, you may find something that suits better than the 10BA chassis / tac-look system, unless you're wanting that look - then go for it.

The Savage 10TR with 5R rifling is available at very reasonable prices (about half the price of a Rem 700 5R) and would be a good place to start a journey into long range shooting. They can be had in 20 inch,
or 24 inch barrels and for $700 to $800, which leaves you with lots of money for scopes, bipods and all the other extras you inevitably end up buying - extras that can be moved over to a new platform when you
out grow the Savage 10TR. Just a thought.

I own the .338 LM and love it,, groups are very tight and really gives a guy that swagger look when you pull It out. The recoil is less than my .243 thanks to the muzzle break,, really an awesome rifle.

They dont make commission.

On another note I ordered a 10 Stealth Evolution in 6.5.
