Just got this sent to me this morning. My first semi custom rifle is ready for pick up. I'm going to order my NECG front banded sight barrel band sling swivel and rear express style sight once I get it home.
Was a 270win in its previous life. Now sports a benchmark 24" barrel in 35 whelen. For optics I bought a trijicon 3x9 and warne QD rings. Irons will be set up for 75 yards. Also picked up a peep for the rear base that folds down but still unsure if I will install it or not. Big thanks to doublegun for all the advice. Very helpfull and also to downrange precision for doing the smith work in a very timely fashion.

The rifle looks good, but I don't think I have ever seen a Whelen with a bipod before...

Very handy rig... I had one in a Ruger M77 MKII. Sold it off in favour of the same rifle in .350 RM and sold that off in favour of an M77 AW and M77 Frontier in .358 Win... the .358's do what I need from them. If it were a dedicated moose rifle, I would choose the Whelen, as you have.

VERY nice set up. What is the total weight.

I put NECG sights and bbl band on my 375. I think that with the cost of the sights and gunsmithing, I was better off just buying a spare low power scope in DQ rings instead. That's what I did with my 358Win. I wanted to keep the weight lower on this one as well.

Super cub I have seen your 375ct on another forum and it's where I got the idea as I really like the style of those sights and how the blend well. They are expensive but this rifle will be in my family for a very long time. And I believe irons are better for close quarter fast moving targets rather than a low powered scope and it's one less thing I would need to pack in the bush with me when I'm guiding. This will be a working rifle and will likely get carried 150+ days a year.
I've got another winchester action in 308 I was thinking about re barreling to 358 win but I found a good deal on a 243 ai barrel. So I will likely go that way.

I haven't shot this one much yet, but I've had two other Whelens and they have always shot well with a 225 Partition over Rel 15.

My son's Whelen with a 22-1/2" King barrel shoots the 225 TSX over Rel 15 at 2700.

I have also used Varget in the Whelen.

Haven't found any r 15 but I did buy a few lbs of varget and some 225gr accubonds and 200gr tsx. Try these out first but would like to try something in the 250 gr weight as well.

Has your son ever recovered any of the 225gr tsx from an animal. I'd be interested to see how much it opened up at whelen velocity

I've shot 250 Speers in several 35cal rifles and they all were quite accurate. Am going to get a load for them for my 358 as well.

He's only ever shot one animal with it, a small buck at about 40 yards.....no bullet recovered...:)

I shot a moose at 170 yards with my Whelen using the TSX and was able to recover the bullet. I'll post a photo later when I dig it up.

Nice looking rifle BBO!

Here is a Whelen that I finally got back up and running after the stock came apart in my hands...

Thanks to a very generous member here I have enough quality 35 cal bullets to last me a lifetime . Thanks again Bruce!
