Hello All,
I've decided I may be in the market for a CZ 97. While doing a little research, I came to the understanding that the newer production 97's should have the aluminum grips and the fiber sight. A shop I was at the other day had a new 97 but with wood grips and the standard sights. It had the new style barrel bushing and was definitely not a used firearm. Can anyone tell me if the new production CZ 97's all have the aluminum grips or is the Canadian market an anomaly? If I'm going to buy new, I don't really want to buy new, old stock.

Thanks

CZ 97 B – .45 ACP $707.00
The CZ 97 B is the big-bore brother to the CZ 75 B. It is operationally identical to the 75 B (SA/DA, firing pin block safety and magazine brake). Features include a screw-in barrel bushing, loaded chamber indicator and a double-stack magazine holding 10 rounds.

Starting in 2013, the 97 B wears thin aluminum grips and a fiber optic front sight.

CZ 97 BD – .45 ACP $816.00
A decocker version of the basic CZ 97 B model, we added tritium night sights to make it usable in low-light situations. The decocking lever is mounted on the left side, allowing the hammer to be lowered on a loaded chamber and enable safe, ‘hammer-down’ carry. The double-stack magazine allows for 10+1 capacity.

Starting in 2013 we added a set of thin aluminum grips to the 97 BD, giving it a slimmer grip profile and plenty of traction.

Seeing as the change started in the 13' model, I'm sure there is still a lot of old stock around with the wood grips.

Last time I looked, no one had the new model in Canada.. a few places had pics of the new model, but when I called to order, they confirmed it was the older model.

Not a big deal, I ended up buying the older model, and some alum grips.. the internals of the models are identical.

If you can get the older model cheaper, it's a good deal. The aluminum grips are supposed to be thinner (the base CZ wood grips are kind of fugly too) on a very thick double stack grip and the fiber optic front sight is another improvement.

That's the new 97BD model then, did it have a fiber optic front sight?

I honestly can't recall. I have a cz97 that is a few years old. I absolutely love it. Mine has been upgraded to tritium sights and a competition hammer. The factory wood grips suck though, far too slippery.
