okay, so I've got a ruger m77 that I had set up for .338 federal, 20" barrel, walnut stock. but she's heavier than I want.
I was thinking something along the lines of a tikka t3 or Remington 700 ......

what's available in an under 7lbs rifle in .338 federal?
searching the usual online outfits isn't getting me anywhere.
or where can I pick up a Remington 700 action with .308 bolt....... hmmmmm
probably a good route if I were to go custom?

I got a ruger scout, but it's heavier than I expected so want to replace it with a lighter rifle in .338federal

would like to have a rifle ready to go by august if not sooner.
help please LOL

so far I've only found a savage 11 hog hunter (7.25lbs) , 20" threaded barrel........ no experience with savage rifles so I dunno

Ive got a t3 light stainless in .338 fed. I lik it it. Its nice and light, accurate with everything except the 180gr Accubond Fed Premium stuff. I was getting 3/4" groups with the 185 TripleShok fed premium load but sadly they have discontinued that. I usethe fusion 200gr load now. I also run a bushnell trs25 red dot on it for awesomeness. Wanna buy it? I have dies and once fired brass for it.

did you try it with 210 gr nosler? I've heard the tikka t3 .338's like that bullet

hmmmmm wanna trade for a ss laminate, ruger scout LOL no dies but it has once fired brass as well ;)

I am contemplating a rem 700 receiver up build with a Krieger barrel, detacheable mag.... but now we're getting into some $$$

i have a rem 700 with b&c light stock, #2 douglass xx barrel at 23 inches in 338 06 and it under 7.5 lbs with a 2.5x8 scope on it. using a short action will save about 4 ozes. the rem built up will probably shoot very well just not cheap to do. cheapest rout is a t3 ibelieve there 6lb 4oz in factory trim.

ya, I thought about going the rem 700 build route as well but if I did a rem 700 type build I'd be hitting up jerry for one of those pierce engineering titanium rigs. now we're talking a 2000.00 rifle without even thinking about what glass to dress her with.
any way I slice it, I'm gonna blow my yearly firearms budget clear outta the water by june LOL

Very late to this party but Kimber Montana is IT for this query. Bear in mind the .308 which I know you're well set up for acts like the .338 Fed loaded with 200's over cfe223, 45.3grs of it will push a 200r to 2,600fps- that's bloody impressive. That also outruns what the .338 Fed will do by 50fps for the same bullet weight and deliver exceptional sectional density, weird but true.

ya, I've looked at the kimber since starting this thread, thanx for the heads up there guys.
I think what I've decided to do is first, deal with acquiring the canam 50bmg upper and atrs nonrestricted lower and a few cans of 50 cal for my stash.
after that's bought and paid for I'm gonna go thru mystic precision to have a .338 federal rifle built on a Pierce Engineering titanium action.
I kinda feel like spoiling myself on this one ;)
