Lets see some pics of your Tacticool VZ 58/858s

Got my VZ58 Friday...and all the things I have been squireling away for a few weeks are on today... the armacoat on the stock and 4 mags did not really go as dull flat black as I wanted...but I am sooooo pleased with the African hardwood grip and hand guards that I do not care!!

Wow man that looks great. Very jealous!

There's alot of nice looking rifles in here. Looks like this will probably be my next gun purchase.

Still havnt shot it yet. But added a few goodies. The .223 AR mag well adaptor fits just fine on the 7.62 rifle and the 10 round XCR mags seem to fit fine as well and drop free easily. The NEA upper handguard is a bit of a b**** to get on, super tight. Almost like its spring loaded. Needed to put quite a bit of downward pressure on it to line up the holes for the retaining pin. Watch out when disasembling for the pins retaining spring and detent ball..... Spent an hour on my hands and knees looking for the spring when it all came apart from being a little to ham fisted. Optic of some kind is up next.

There seem to be enough reports of FTE.

I was at the range on Saturday and we did have some issues with stovepipes.

This was a surprise to me as we had run 100 rounds in a previous range trip without issue. A little investigating appeared to solve the issue. I had

started shooting with a scope on the rifle. There were no failures to eject during the 40 rounds or so with the scope mounted. However I was having

issues with setting the sdjustment on the scope so switched to a Mepro. I had set the Mepro on the rail in the area of the ejection port and it appeared

that brass was striking the corner of the Mepro and causing stovepipes.

I set the Mepro further back on the rail and all seemed to be well again. Note the damage in the corner of the Mepro due to brass striking it.

I suggest you keep the area of the ejection port clear when mounting optics. Note also I added a protective strip of velcro to the rail. I wanted to

test the rail with and without the velcro, and the rail seemed to function well with it installed.

Here is a pic of the rifle as requested in prior threads:

No, that wasn't an issue. The scope is an older milsurp type, possibly for an FN rifle. I couldn't get enough travel

out of the adjustments to get the shots on target. Shots were too low even at maximum adjustment. It was a scope issue not a rail issue.

Once the Mepro was on it took all of 30 seconds to get on target and shooting well.

The only issue was the shells striking the Mepro and stovepiping. That, and the gremlin in the damned rifle, LOL.

Once the Mepro was set further back on the rail we had no further issues with stovepipes.

I see I missed your question about the velcro. I suggest adding the velcro to protect the rail from taking a beating from steel cased ammo. Even hard

coat anodized aluminum will get damaged by impact with steel cases. If you prefer you can use hockey tape to protect the area ... the velcro is

something I included with the SKS rails to acheive the same effect, that's all.

Looking good ..... keep an eye on the location of the front ring, that location may cause issues with stovepipes.

Bring some tools with you on your next range visit just in case you need to shift it forward more. Also check the botom corner of the forwrard ring for

signs that that ejecting shells are hitting it.

Well, two days of range testing. The first day with optics - 3 to 4 out of 5 would FTE. Today without optics it has dropped down to 2 to 3 per 5 FTE.

I'm using non corrosive Norinco bulk.

Here is a pic of the change I made to my CZ rail to solve the "battering" issue.

I had an area milled to accept a steel screw and thereby strengthen the area which seems to take the most hits by shell casings.

I took the opportunity to test this change out at the range today, and overall it worked well. I shot 100 rounds and did get 2 stovepipes, so make of

that what you will. It appears that this design will get the occasional stovepipe so if your shooting demands zero issues, this particular rail may not

be for you. I am working on another model but it hasn't been thoroughly tested.

For those of you who have the gen.1 CZ rail, let us know how they are working for you.

Back from the range today, really wet out with some drizzling and a bit cold.

Tested the one rail on my 7.5" compact 7.62x39. Ran about 100 or so rounds thru it. Had roughly 4-5 malfunctions.

A had few others that were similar to the above pics but just by habit cleared them ans kept firing.
Rail held zero perfect for me and i dont notice any "scalloping" or wear to the rail in anyway.
Just wish we can figure out a way to get these stoppages fixed Magwedge. I really do like this rail ALOT.

In this case I am wondering if the velcro may be inhibiting the exit of the shells.

All I know at this point is that my rail worked better on my rifle and I am trying to eliminate all the differences I can think of.
I had fired the first 100 to 150 rounds with no velcro, then added the velcro near the back of the rail.

The number of stovepipes I had with this rail was between 0 and 2 per hundred aside from the time I had the Mepro mounted in the path of the shells. I

see people have had different experiences and am trying to nail down where the issue is.

Skidcone was going to try and take some slow motion pics for us , maybe that will help.

I just had time put like 10 rounds through it. It was jamming right from the get go and by the time I spotted the brass marks on

the optics mount, the range warden was closing up.
Will do more in-depth testing this upcoming weekend though and will give a report.

How many stovepipes per 100 shots are you getting?

This is ridiculous. My rifle seems to be camera shy.. we took 3 videos today. The first was fired from the hip due to camera height to get a close up on ejection. No FTE. Fired from the shoulder with the camera off.. 1/5 FTE. Got two more videos after with 0 FTE. Seems like it's starting to wear in.. out of 80 rounds, I saw about 4 FTE. All were a naked rail and no velcro. Didn't have time to make the deflector as per our earlier conversation, Dave.. I'll take some separate pictures of the wear after we are done on the farm. It's not as bad as I thought, but I'd still like to add something for long term use. I did notice 1 or 2 escape out at 10 o'clock, but didn't result in a FTE. I'm really curious what might have changed since yesterday..

Roughly 2-3 FTE. I'll keep running it and tinkering till it works itself out I hope

Optics was almost constant FTE.. ran my optics in every spot possible. Back to the 3-4 out of 5. Bare rail running about 1 in 30

Right on, good to hear Bfiles!

We were out today.. just couldn't run optics on it without FTE. After two boxes of 20 I had to go back to plain jane naked rail with about 1 in 30 FTE. I may just need to buy a longer optic to get a better spread over the ejection area.

Finally got out with mine with the scope on. Run 120 rounds of domino arms steel cased fmj. I only had 1 failure to eject out of the 120 rounds. No impacts to scope. Had fun with it! First time I've had magnification on a vz58.

It appears that the price of having a full length rail on this rifle is the occasional FTE. I thought I had the problem solved completely, but it seems as if about 1% of the time this happens on most rifles. If the occasional FTE is not a deal breaker for you, this rail is a viable option. If you require an absolute zero malf setup, you may want to wait for the gen 2.

The gen2 version (aka Tactical model) looks to be issue free, but the production of this model has been delayed due to some very substantial dealer orders that needed to be addressed first. I expect to see a production of the new Tactical model some time this summer, when our machine shop is free from commitments other projects.

I'm running a 1-4x on mine. But like i said before I did have 1 failure in 120 rounds.

Hopefully the Magwedge rail doesn't turn your gun into a jam-o-matic. They seem to have a tendency to do that.

Tell us about your vast personal experience with this matter please ... so far FTE have been minimal except for a very few rifles.

BTW, very nice setup Luis, the rifle looks awesome.

Well I am gonna take her out to the range here shortly to re sight the gun in. I'm going to put 100 rounds through it and see how it does. From what I am seeing it's mostly the shorty vz's that are having issues. If I get 1 or 2 or 3 or even 5 FTE's out of 100 I'm happy. If anything it helps me get muscle memory in performing IA's. I'll report back when I'm done.

This rifle was never meant to eject to the side. It's not designed for that. Anyone who buys this rail should know that before hand. Just take a look at the ejector. From what I can see, Magwedge has done a decent job of creating a deflector in the rail to aid ejection the best they can right now. I knew that before buying it. I'm. Just happy for a full length top rail. It's lighter and more streamlined than a side mount rail, which are heavy btw.

And thanks Magwedge! It's been about a year in the process to get my rifle like this lol.
